Is that OK?

Or is there another way I should do it?

if it works without blowing the fuse, my guess is that it will be fine. i hooked mine the the hot wire going to the cab clearance lights. i doubt that gauge draws enough juice to really cause any problems.

I powered mine by a large orange wire under the steering column, that was hot in the IGN ON position. I don't fully remember why, but after 3+ years, it seems to be great. I also used that wire for my low fuel pressure warning light power. Ran the hot wire to the LED, then the ground wire to the sensor switch at my VP. Works great and cost me $37 bucks!
