But maybe I missed something. I just don't see a 400-450 hp CTD getting into the 12's.... even a light one with billet tranny and 20 psi launches.
Anyone disagree??

Remember...with the right setup we can have full fueling clear out to 4500RPM...that can really help you get out of the hole!

I would think my guess of low 13's would be closer, but a 13 flat or very high 12 might be attained with the right tuning!

Do 12v's have better 60' times than 24v's with the same power? I've never noticed that they do??

I can get under 2.0 pretty much all the time. Best ever - 1.75.
I know 24v's regularly doing 1.69-1.70 sec at the 500-600 hp level.

I would say that is possible if you talking the same horsepower. From what I've seen, 12 valves will have more torque than a 24v at the same horsepower which I could believe would translate to a quicker 60' time. Of course it would depend on the truck and the tuning.

I've seen 12v's get down under 1.6...but not too often! We'll see how I do in a couple weeks, but my charger is a whole lot laggier than your twins!

It all depends on the setup...with a stock cam, I don't think 450hp will get you in the 12's...there's just not enough flow above 2500RPM, and the power falls off FAST! I found that out this past weekend on the dyno. Power peaked at 25-2600, and fell off at 27-2800RPM. By the time the charger got to work, it was out of air...at 3500RPM I was just making noise (and blowing intercooler boots)

im looking at twins as a possibility now, but still undecided. i was considering a 62/71/13 over either a s400 or a auora 5000. ive heard good things about to first combo, but never heard of anyone doing the second. im looking at least 700 hp, but more will be a big bonus. at this point, im just looking at all possibilities. the truck will see a little street, but mostly just offroad and playing. after the funds start to build up again this summer, im thinking of doing the twins then. i know i need more fuel, head work, studs and ALOT more, so im figuring im going to try to get the most hp and torque for the money that ill be shelling out.

62 over k31 (which the a5k is based on) is the setup Industrial is selling, so it has been done. I think the s400 is bigger than the k31 and would be more apporpriate for your goals, but I'll just wait for turbo guru chris to jump back into the thread =P

John P's best (at 800+ hp, with a cam) is 1.65, I believe... after adding Traction bars. Hard to imagine much faster... but as you know, my 12v knowledge is limited.

A K31 or similar would be great for a towing 12v...but if you don't tow heavy or often, go with a standard S400/B2. If you think you'll actually get close to 700-800, go with a 80mm S400 12v's love air!

BTW, on anything other than a 12v or P-pumped 24v, a PS62/K31 combo should be good for high 600, low 700's and still keep EGT's manageable!

Joefarmer's best is a 1.6 with a GT42 and Nitrous (sprayin to spool!) I'll bet with the HTT QD66 he'll do a bit better since it spools a lot faster!

I have no idea where I'll be at, but with a measly 375hp, I won't even be near the 12's...I'll be lucky to be in the low 14's!

Maybe a 450hp 12v can't get into the 12's...which I think is what I've said all along...but getting close (13.2-13.4) should be no problem. And Yes, I know that 13.4 seconds is a long way from 12.99, but remember, we're talking about 12v's! Another 50hp is just a little tuning away...or a bottle!

I've seen some 12v's running modified 160 and 180 pumps get into the 12's. Not sure what their hp was, but they were strong running trucks. I think Garmon had helped them.

cumminsdriver635:

With reference to what Matt (Tiger Rag) is saying, I helped DTR Member Phil
Mc Master (Mc Mopar) take off his stock 180 P-7100 Pump and install a modified 180 pump that I had on my 96' Dodge CTD which Scheid Diesel built for me. That pump had the fuel set at about 350-400cc's, it had Scheids' Custom 5K spring kit in it and 191 delivery valves. To give you some reference/comparisons, at the recent drag race event at Rockingham, N.C., Phil ran 12.88@ 104 MPH! He does have a Goerend Transmission in his truck too. He has not run his truck on the dyno yet with the new pump, butI would say he is right at 500-510 H.P. With that same pump on my 96' I ran consistent 13.0-13.2's at 100-101 MPH. My 96' is a long bed and Phil's 98' is a short bed and that cuts about 500 pounds.

Hope this has helped you some.

RowJ is right, my best 60ft time so far has been a 1.65 with the set-up I have. To add to what he said, different tires (which is next on my list )
should help get that down to 1.60. Slicks would be even better.

The run JP was talking about on my truck was:

R/T---.523
60'----1.78
330'---5.25
1/8----8.18
MPH---83.46
1000--10.73
1/4----12.88
MPH---104

To get this number I Launched at 22lbs of boost, in 4X4. My VB automatically locks the TC the minute the truck shifts into 2nd gear with the "mystery" switch armed.

My next best run was a 13.29 at 101, but I forgot the switch!!
