Question about synthetic tranny fluid

Hey everyone new to the site and am learning a lot. About ready to change my tranny fluid and my mechanic reccomended filling with 50% synthetic. Will this help the tranny. Or should I go with 100% synthetic for the extra cost. I tow a 30 ft. 5ver and plan to change every year. Thanks for the help.

Re:Question about synthetic tranny fluid

I run Amsoil in mine and I have been very happy with it. I tow a 32' fiver. You can go about 30K between changes so it pays for it self in time saved alone. I'd go 100% if your going to go at all.

Glenn

Re:Question about synthetic tranny fluid

Chief:
You didn't say whether you had an auto or a five speed. In my five speed I've run Amsoil series 2000 for about 4 years. I've towed in 98 degree weather and have never gotten over 200 *. Course I run Amsoil all the way through. When I got to 200 I just dropped the speed a little and down it came. I do change it every year as I do in the rear and front diff., transfer case and the overdrive unit. It's time now.

..Preston..

I run Amsoil ATF4 in mine. The temps are lower in all conditions with it. ;D I would go all synthetic.
Dan

Re:Question about synthetic tranny fluid

Using synthetic is really a personal choice, With the new oils on the market they all are much better than past history. Synthetics work very well under extreme heat or cold. The oils used in the manual transmission should be synthetic in most cases. The auto's have so much better oil like the ATF+4 now which has very good life and flash point quality's how ever you cant go wrong with any of your choices if the oils are serviced regularly.

Don

I bought some Amsoil Universal ATF at a NAPA store for $8.99 per quart.

I've seen Mobil 1 ATF at Autozone for $4.99 per quart. I don't know if it meets Chrysler ATF+4 spec, though.

Re:Question about synthetic tranny fluid

Amsoil is said to be +4 but we must remember it is not DC approved as is none of the others that I know of. You will only need syn. in extreme cold or hot applications from the research I have done.
Bruce

Re:Question about synthetic tranny fluid

It has been said "it is not DC approved". True but then Harley-Davidson say the only synthetic oil "approved" for their bikes is their own "screaming eagle" synthetic. Does that mean any other will grenade the bikes? I dought it.

Everybody wants to sell their own stuff.

..Preston..
