Question about 3k GSK kit?

Hey I happened to read the thread about MR. T putting on a GSK kit. It sounds like its a whole new truck. Is the 3k gsk a 3000rpm before defueling, and is the 4k gsk 4000rpms before defueling?? If i go with the 3k gsk will i need to worry about different valve springs? I drive a 97 5spd. partly modified, banks stinger plus kit, with better exhaust and BHAF. WIll i loose any mpg with a the gsk kit, if i drive it nice ?

Hey thanks for all the help guys at the DTR, Thanks Tim.

I have same setup you have with the 3 gsk. It was the last thing I put in and it put a smile on my face as soon as I drove it out of the garage. No valve springs required with 3k . My mileage is a little better with all I have done so long as I drive normally.
Welcome to the site , you will learn a lot here , put your sig in so guys know what your driving and what has been done to it.

Seems to me that all goes out the window,

for at least 3 or four tanks after u get a new BOMB like that... No valve springs needed for the 3K but u knew that already, The main benefit of a GSK is the widening of the typically narrow 12V powerband..... It will fuel hard to at least 3200 RPMS, 3000 as a minimum, but it all depends also on your governer arm adjustment, as well as your fuel plate..

A 215 pump with stock spring usually fuels pretty well past 2,500 rpm. Adding the 3k springs does put it into a 3,200 area with governor limit around 3,600 rpm. According to a Cummins Engineer I know, 3,600 rpm is about the limit you want with stock valve springs.

Another mentioned factor is the profile of your fuel plate. Some do not compliment governor springs. A TST #10 profile plate is the best starting point for either auto or manual trucks.

Get your timing set and let's talk GSK.

I thought 3400 is the limit where the valves can float without stronger springs.

Very good question

Knowing my truck will hit 3,600 rpm on 3k GSK, I doubted the various numbers quoted and used an available resource, a Cummins Engineer, to get me the straight facts from the engine manufacturer. He stated that 3,600 rpm was the limit with stock valve springs.

I still avoided going past about 3,000 because of running out of air and fuel.
I changed to 60lb springs on all valves after blowing the head gasket because I have the 4k springs in my desk drawer ready to install if I decide to go there.

yep well i got no complaints about the GSK's...and i only have the stock plate! the difference is still night and day......next up for me is gauges and a timing advance then im gonna get a 100 plate (have 2 plates on my table ready for grinding and im gonna slide her back a bit and have some fun...i have a pretty gentle foot so im sure i can control EGT's in that with the plate in that position and my shift kit is ready to be put in as well to improve TC holding...but with the 100 plate slid back im estimating (on my pump) to get about 550-600 torque with modest fueling below 1800rpms and I think that will not punish the tranny...im gonna try and have the most fueling to occur at 2000 rpms(with my grinding) and up and that should help the TC hold no problem especially with only 600 torque....thats my plan for a setup for springtime
