Programmers/Modules/Chips

Im new to the diesel world. I'm looking for a good programmer that is on the fly adjustable. I have a '98 12 valve with Bosch 370 injectors, R&R Injection pump and Industrial Injection turbo. What Im finding is most of them are for 1998.5 and newer while mine is an early build '98. What's the difference from '98 to '98.5 and does it matter when it comes to a programmer. Im currently looking at a Quadzilla XZT+.

Your 12 valve is a mechanical motor. No computer to plug a performance box into. Electronics were introduced with the 24 valve motor halfway through the 98 production year, hence the 98.5 designation. If you want to increase performance in a 12 valve, you have to do it the old fashioned way: with a wrench.

yep, you're going to have to wrench it to increase hp. Start reading here in the 12v section. Look at installing a fuel plate and a gov spring kit.

Yep, a good fuel plate . #10 I like, and governor spring kit will do wonders for your truck. You don't need much to wake up the 12 valve to near 300hp. But believe me you will appreciate the no computer thing over time. Wish i still had my 12 valve!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only problem is I dont really know where to start because this truck has been worked over by the previous owner and I dont know where to go next. Its got a tractor filter for cleaner 4" turbo back exhaust off a Phatshaft 62/70 Industrial Injection turbo with 4" stainless downpipe, R&R injection pump, Bosch 370 injectors and tranny has HD fork and line pressure is maxed out. Is my next step bigger injectors or rebuild internal components in pump?? Estimated 400hp and 850 ft/lbs.......

I had a 96 that had a similar setup. I would start with a plate. I had a #10 and it was awesome. REALLY woke it up.

If you have all of those mods, it would lead me to believe you probably already have a fuel plate and gsk kit. W/my limited 12v knowledge, you'd probably have to go to twins+more fuel and all of the things that go along...head work, tranny, etc. JMO.
