power chips
power chips
I am new to the diesel world and have what may be a remedial question.
I have been looking at different options for performance chips. I have seen the term "stacking" a few times and not sure what it is?

If you're truly running a 12 valve (1994-1998), no need to look at performance chips. Your performance enhancements are all mechanical.
But otherwise, stacking refers to running multiple performance boxes at the same time.

As mentioned above, "chipping" Or stacking boxes can only be done with trucks with electroniclly controlled fuel injection systems. That will be 1998.5 to current for our Dodge Cummins.
Most of todays boxes are programmers that either send a different tune to computer (these boxes do not stay attached to truck) or are plugged in between computer and fuel injection system (these stay on truck). You can stack different boxes, but you would only stack a timing box onto a fueling box or similiar. You wouldn't want to stack two timing boxes. If you just want simplicity and mild power go with a programmer such as hypertech or superchips. If you want more, go with an edge box, van aaken, etc... I'm a 12v guy so others will have more information than me.
