i can grind and polish a plate in less than 10 minutes. and it will not be over heated and it will be much smoother than stock. i posted a thread on grinding your own plate, a search will bring it up. i have a #10 in my wifes truck and for the world i can not think why i didn't just put in a #100. i can see no benfit of top end defueling that i cannot do with my foot. unless you lend your truck out, and i still think a valet switch would be better to keep the fuel down.

Fine guys.. My point was that some guys don't have the proper tools to grind a plate. Those that have the tools will know a bit about heat and grinding on metal. I was wanting all the information out there so that everyone knows what they are getting into. Also cutting a true flat surface on a plate with a grinder would not be an easy job. I still maintain I would prefer a milling machine.

I also still maintain that if you don't know the full travel charactoristics of the governor arm, its trial and error. Repeatability is also just not possible.

I already use my foot for heat control and it sucks. The plate and governor do a better job of heat control than I can with external pressure on the governor. With that argument to use your foot, then pull the plate out and don't waste your time.

Lets see..... Say $25 for the boost elbow, and another $25 for a dummy plate to work on. $50. Cheap. Then lets see, I have 0 hours in the day to do this as I am either working in my office or out on the road. So my time is worth more than that. I am happy paying the extra $150 to buy it and be able to bill myself out for 2 or more extra hours instead of grinding....

then get a #10 get the 4k gsk with it and then slide it forward and back as u please and u'll be happy....FYI u dont need any special tools to grind it...a simple round file will do if u have about an hour to give her...and then some ruff sanding paper...wrap the file in the paper and finish her off

anyways the # 10 seems to be the most popular due to its smooth large curve...but its fully appreciated only with the gov springs

well since the last plate i bought was 215 dollars in hand, and i can do the job from start to finsh [pull plate, grind and reinstall]in less than a half and hour. i guess i can figure my pay at 400 plus bucks a hour, thats not bad in my book.

2 hours of my time is $200...

I sure as heck couldn't do it in less than that. Especially going off of a picture with NO MEASURMENTS...

And since 0.010 is about 10 hp on the 215 pump, I don't think "hand tools" are really that repeatable from one "customer" to the next.

If I made $200 an hour the bombs, the bombs man I would also have more than 2 fully bombed bombers more power to you my friend, at that rate
i'd buy the full range of plates and install depending on my mood Don't blame ya, sound like a pretty busy guy, looks like I'll continue a grindin away till that day comes lol (Alaska natural gas pipeline, or ANWR) lol

Its oil and gas time... I am peanuts compared to welders and fabricators around here...

Heck the lawyers I just talked to were $280/hr...

That's still pretty good! Compared to my $16 an hour usd which can barely pay for an $820 dollar a month one bedroom apt plus 2 loans !! That's why I can't wait LNG pipeline/ANWR project to start a poppin, over 400,000 skilled jobs will open up!

I print out a picture of a 10 plate ,then make a template, use a marker to make a line ,grind it down with a carbide bit on my air die grinder, then polish it with a flapper wheel on the same grinder.Takes about 20 minutes.

Print it out at the highest quality, put clear packing tape over it.Cut it out with scissors.Lay it on the stock plate and color the part to be ground away with a sharpie marker.

I make this offer to anyone out there who wants a 100 plate that doesn't have the time, resources or skill to make one. PM me I'll send you my mailing address
you send me your plate and I'll build you a nice shiny 100 ( prefferably out of a stock plate, breaks my heart to grind an aftermarket) with an undisturbed temper all for the cost of to and from postage.

PS will take donations for 370's

Thanks for your replies guys.
What is the difference between the #10 and the #100 plates???
Does the #100 give you more acceleration from stop than the #10?? What about EGT's???

TIA

If you look at the picture above the #10 has a ramp top and bottom. The #100 has roughly the same bottom ramp (a little more of a radius for smoother power) but no top ramp, creating no defueling on the top. As for EGT's I've yet to put mine in as I will put in my new t/con and transgo prepped valve body this weekend.
