Performance/towing ?
Performance/towing ?
Hopefully this won't get moved it is more a performance question.
First off you guys are evil, and so is the internet for making you all available to me at the touch of a keyboard. This performance/ upgrading stuff is catchy. I was a performance hound before, but it isn't as expensive with gassers.
So I did some towing this past weekend and would like to be able to pull the hills a little better. Keep in mind I work for the gov't and they don't pay me a fortune. My first thoughts are to collect my guages and pod. Then I am going to get a BHAF. From there what should I do. I was thinking 4" exhaust. I don't want to wake the whole house up whith the exhaust. The diesel clatter is already loud enough. From there I have no idea what mod to make. I've read alot on here about ECM stuff rather than boxes. Again, I'm not rich and I don't want a race truck. I want to maintain my fuel economy or improve it. The wife gave me the go ahead to do whatever I want as long as it doesn't hurt the rig. If the mods start breaking things she'll put me out with the dog.
I must have read 40 threads tonight after searching for "towing performance," and "need more towing power."
HELP!!

AFE 4" exaust MAD ECM mach 1.6s and up grade your turbo you will love the way it pulls. my last tank full netted me 21 MPG hand calc. you can use the stock turbo but a up grade is better also you will need the standard gauges and a BUILT TRANNY to handle the power
rebal
I think you missed the part about me working for the gov't and not being rich.
I'm in the military. I really don't get paid much. Plus I have a wife that is into motor sports too. So I have to share the fun money with her. Why did I get married

RV 275 Injectors, an Edge EZ and exhaust. Do the Tranny as soon as possible but will hold for a while on this setup. Minus the Tranny this will cost under a grand and give you all the power you will ever need. Almost forgot the Guages are mandatory.
What kind of IP life are we talking with these mods? I just read about the EZ and DTT wants 470 or something like that for it. Can I do the injectors at home or should a true mechanic do them. I am automotively mechanically inclined. Oh plus another 349 for the guages and pod.
the catcher works with all the parameters set for the VP so it doesnt put more strain on the vp like fueling boxes do some VP will die shortly after a box is installed others seem not to mind at all.injectors are real easy with basic tools and a stuby 19 mm wrench and 2 hrs of your time

It's been shown on here many times that the fueling box's aren't what's killing the VP, that if your VP is already bad it just makes the problem more apparent. The RV275 Injectors are an easy do it yourself thing, $275 for the set brand new, not remanufactured. MBRP Exhaust Alumanized exhaust $335, Comp EZ $500. All of these prices are from Diesel Performance Parts, a vendor right off this board and if you are buying all this I bet he would make you a deal. I know that Injectors and Edge Comps and EZ come available used here in the Classified's quite a bit also.

Last time I checked a crate big block that would put out 425hp cost over $5000 when it's all said and done. Building your own still costs way more than getting the same power from a 24V CTD and even less with a 12V. Plus gassers can't get near the torque.
To get 400+ from a diesel all you need is a $500 dollar chip, $350 exhaust and a $1000 clutch. Maybe another $800-1000 for a turbo. Under 3 grand for a GT and rice killer that will pull your house around
Cost efffective way would be to p/u a used VanAaken towing box, or an Edge E-Z, or comp and feel the difference, that MAY
be enough for you for now. I ran with just an original VanAaken for 4+ years towing and everyday use, it improved all around driving and towing immensely, and would be safe with stock exhaust.
If you need a little more rv275 injectors are also a good upgrade with a box. I found with just the CATCHER alone
, it was a hoot to drive, but initial cost is more($500usd). If you add too much power, you will have to do something with your tranny(such as shift kit, valve body, torque)to hold extra power. The bombing bug can be a little bit expensive, but also quite enjoyable.

I called CMP chips for a package deal...Gauges, Air intake, Edge EZ and exhaust I was literally blown away by the price they gave me. I later added RV275's and my truck was a towing machine. It was a perfect set up. Good mileage and very reasonable EGT's

Looking for a clarification on the last post to know if it was pointed at me. I listed prices in my previous post but I am not affiliated with the vendor I listed. I just went to an advertiser on this site and looked at his prices listed on the website just to illustrate the point. If this is against the rules just wanna know for future.
