Performance Chips

1999 2500, 4X4, 5 spd, 24 valve, 118,000 k miles...............
Is there a good, moderatly priced chip upgrade that would give me a little more acceleration in 4th gear? I don't really have a power problem, but would like to boost my weakest gear.

There are alot of fueling boxes out there that can give you what you want. After doing some research, I went with the Edge EZ based on what I have heard and read. I am very happy with my decision. It took about 5-10 minutes to install and made a big difference, especially when towing my 5th wheel. The increase in boost has also reduced my egt's. Many of the other boxes out there give about the same hp/torque ratings as the Edge EZ. I am sure someone with one of the other products will be along to give you their opinion of their box.

I have the TST PowerMax 1 and am happy with it. It took about 90 minutes to install, but the increase in boost and harder pulling when RPMs are climb ing make it worth the money. Now to move to a PM3, and blow out the torque converter!

Re:Performance Chips

I have a Bully Dog torque dog chip on my truck, bought it slightly used for about $300. Edge EZ is the most common on this site and is a great unit. Both install in mins!

I've been thinking about the Edge EZ, but I'm not sure if you have to have all of the other mods in place first (gauges, Ram Air III, 4" exhaust, etc.). Are you safe just running the Edge EZ without other mods or do you need them first? I plan/hope to get them eventually, but it won't be for a while.

Re:Performance Chips

I am refering to the pre 03 EZ in this post. Crobtex, first check the lift pump pressures. I prefer the EZ, never had any problems with any that I have sold (except 1 refurb unit), never had one returned either (except to swap for a Comp ). It is fine to run the EZ with out any other mods. The increased boost pressure will lower EGT's. I still suggest gauges on any turbo diesel. I have yet to slip a clutch 5 or 6 speed with just an EZ. Auto trannys need a little help, even stock. If you plan on adding any HP later go ahead with the Comp, I like to be able to turn the power off too.
