PE 4200 Fuel System Installed!!!

I just wanted to thank Doug at Advanced Diesel Technology for seting me up with their PE 4200 fuel system. I must say that it is one mean sounding pump. I now have 8 AN lines from the tank to the fuel filter and 6 AN lines from the filter to the VP44. Also NO MORE LIFT PUMP!!!NO MORE LIFT PUMP!!! I think it is a good investment not having to worry about low fuel pressures burning up the ole VP44. I would also like to wish everyone at Advanced Diesel Technology (http://www.smokindiesel.com) good luck when they go into business full time on January 1st.

SWEEEETTTTTT ;D

I've been contemplating this system after John P was nice enough to give me some info about it. Did yours come with a relay, wiring, pickup etc...?
How difficult is the install? Lastly, what kind of fuel pressure are you getting?

Thanks,

Scott

Sweet Setup isn't it? Congrats on the install ;D It's nice to be able to floor it and not have the FP even waver off 16 psi

If you guys look close at "banshee's" pump, you will see
that it is mounted on a piece of "L Bracket" or "angle iron"
therefore eliminating the need to drill into the frame!!

In that position it is "protected" from rocks, road debris
etc. Great picture(s) John!!

-------
John_P

Re:PE 4200 Fuel System Installed!!!

Not trying to be ignorant but is this 4200 system not an upgraded lift pump (transfer pump) unit. When I first read it my impression was problem eliminated not upgraded and I have never seen a injection pump run without one unless below level of the fuel tank. PK

Maddog and P Kennedy:

The pump shown in the picture is manafactured by:
"Product Engineering." Their website is: www.productengr.com. This "pusher" fuel pump
is designed to REPLACE the "stock" lift pump so
you will no longer have the fuel pressure problems
associated with stock lift pump, when you begin
adding fueling boxes, injectors etc. (raising H.P.)
The "Product Engineering" Pusher Fuel Pump is
"rated" @ 270 G.P.H.(Gallons Per Hour), has a seven
(7) vane impeller, "hi-flo" -8 fittings and a "continous
duty" two (2) year parts and labor warranty!

"Battering Ram" and "banshee" purchased their
PE pumps through Andy and Doug @ "Advanced Diesel
Technology" 1 South Shupe St., Mt. Pleasant, Pa.15666
Their phone number is: (724) 335-6167. Andy and Doug
have R&D'ed a "kit" for the pump which includes:
Stainless Steel Braided Line with "AeroQuip" Fittings
to run from the fuel tank to the VP-44, a new fuel
tank "pick-up" (replaces the stock pick-up), electrical
relay, complete wiring and connectors etc. to hook-up
the PE pump! You can call them for prices.

Hope this has helped you guys out!

--------
John_P

Re:PE 4200 Fuel System Installed!!!

Thats what I figured but the way the post came across it implied they had eliminated both the pump and the problem. Actually went onto their site to find that they offer 3 kits 4100,4200 and 4300 as they will supply 3 different levels of fuel delivery with the 4100 being close to stock requirements. This is good to know pending the price in place of the stock pump, like I stated never have seen a diesel run without a transfer pump. PK

Re:PE 4200 Fuel System Installed!!!

Actually on boats engines often run on head pressure from the day tank, no transfer pump involved. Just an FYI.

Re:PE 4200 Fuel System Installed!!!

So the benefits are less lag at the low end? What is the impact? I have some lag when I first hit the pedal but I thought it was mostly due to the lag in the turbo.

MD

Re:PE 4200 Fuel System Installed!!!

P Kennedy:

Yes, the PE Pumps take the place of the stock lift
pump. I understand what you are saying about the
location etc., but the PE pumps flow enough fuel
and have enough positive pressure that the location
is not a problem.
_____________
Maddog:

You asked "What is the impact?"

Let me try to hit on all the benefits of this PE pump:

#1.) If you have a BOMBED 24 valve (98.5-2002)
(Fueling Box, Injectors, Biggger Turbo etc.)
the PE pump will STOP the fuel pressure
from being consistently "pulled down" all
the time. You probably read "banshee's"
post where he said he is unable to get his
F.P. below 16 psi now!! The stock lift pump
cannot take the constant pressure fluctuations
(being pulled down to "0&quot without damage or
failure.

#2.) With a "constant" fuel pressure of 16 psi, the
low end improved on "banshee's" truck because
he is getting the proper amount of fuel to the VP-44.
The stock lift pump cannot keep up with the
fueling "demand" of the big boxes and injectors
and this hurts the overall performance of the truck.

#3.) Good fuel pressure to the VP-44 pump is only going
to prolong the life of that pump. The "internals"
of the VP-44 pump are also hurt by the lower
fuel pressures associated with the stock lift
pump. Remember, the VP-44 is "cooled" ONLY
by the fuel, NOT by fuel and oil as is the case
with the P7100 Fuel Pumps on the older 12 valve
Cummins Engines.

Hope this has helped explain some of this for you.

-------
John_P
Re:PE 4200 Fuel System Installed!!!

John_P,

Thanks for the info. This sounds great. So what is the net result on response to hitting the pedal? Does the truck leap when you step on it compared to the stock pump?
