Pdr hx-40 will be here Mon.

I finally broke down and ordered a PDR 40/16. It is teaching me patience waiting on it from the west coast. I ordered the 40 vs. b-1 mainly because of John P.s report and Banshee's recommendation. Thanks guys. Is the replacement pretty straight forward? Any trouble areas? Tim

Make sure you get an ATS manifold - then port it. You will need to clock the turbo just a bit to get the oile drain lined up ....

Only "trouble" area was the downpipe. The PDR HX40 puts the turbo further forward than a HX35 and we had to weld a 3" section to the downpipe to make it fit.

Make sure you run some oil through the turbo before you start the engine and you'll have to keep a light foot for 200 to 300 miles for the turbo to break in.

Charles

Best thing to do once you get this 40 in action is to take a ride on the interstate/freeway for about 100miles, dont use alot of throttle just let its wings and break in.

--Justin

Hey Tim!

You're gonna love the 40. The only problem I had when going from my stock HY35 to the 40 was getting the #@%&^# downpipe out of the rest of the exhaust system. It had been clamped too tight and I had to beat it out with a sizeable hammer. After that two hour fiasco, though, the rest of the install was a snap. The ATS manifold would be a helpful addition to keep from worrying about the stocker cracking on ya.

Like the others have mentioned, be sure to fill the turbo with oil and spin the compressor blades to get the oil down into the bearings. When you get it on and the truck started, take it easy for about 300 miles and it'll last you a long time.

John

Jamie, mine took about 3 hrs to install. Getting the old down pipe off took the most time and trimming the new one about 2 inches to get it right. Still breaking mine in have not pushed above 15 psi yet, maybe tonight Im up to 125 miles on it. Tim

I can't believe how much bigger the 40 is then the 35 that was on my truck holy crap! Now thats a turbo! I talked to piers he said the 40 is even a little on the edge for my setup! I was totally shocked he said if I need I can trade it in on an R&D 55 he is working on!

Re:Pdr hx-40 will be here Mon.

Wow, finally got to open the throttle with the hx-40. We have had a lot of rain, so it had been killing me not to try the turbo out. Seems to spool almost as quick as the stock hx35/12 but once it gets to about 6-7 psi it goes to 40 in a blink. Feels like it added 50hp but is probably only 25. On setting 9 I can get the egts to 1350 but it takes a long time. Thanks to all who recommended this, it is great so far. Looking forward to finding a dyno soon. Tim

Keith, look how much fuel that pump is pushing. What would your egts be with your old pump? I am fixing to add more fuel, either edm stage 4s or get my pm3 upgraded to competition.[maybe both] See you around , still got to fix the kdp on my 98 12v. Tim

Got mine on friday haven't put it on yet? Does it spool faster then a stock 35??? I can't wait to get it on and try it out. I have the downpipe now it showed today so Im all raring to go here! Do you need any kind of oring or any seal between the downpipe and turbo? or just metal to metal with the clamp?
