opinion on this for a replacement xfer pump?
opinion on this for a replacement xfer pump?
Am in the process of loosing another xfer pump, averaging about 1.5 pumps per year since I got a gauge. Plus the durned carters are not cheap anymore so I'm looking at alternatives.
Found this pump (essex) regulated to 12 psi, looks ok to me but what do I know, I am NOT a fuel transfer expert and I did NOT sleep at a holiday Inn express last night either. The pump I was interested in is the quite flow. The 12psi pump is $204 at jeggs.
heres the link
Thanks for any opinions.

If your going through pumps like that id go with a good one like a fass or air dog setup. Ya they are a little more but if they do go out they are warranted and will supply you with all the fuel you'll need
The stock pumps are warranteed for 12 months. Have you done a big fuel line/pump relocation kit like what Geno's garage offers? If you don't have any fueling boxes or large injectors it would do you well to just relocate the pump closer to the tank.
I have the vulcan big line relocation kit, unfortunantly(sp)only every other pump is warrented. I'm in process of installling a relay and some larger gauge wire to the pump. I am starting to wonder if low voltage ( loss due to current draw through extension harness ) is the cause. PSI has not been main issue, its been pump quits running. I cant justify the expense of the fass system in my head when there are to many reliable electric pumps running gassers without failure.( I know.. couple of carters = 1 fass )

I beta tested that pump for Essex about 2 or so years ago, the seals didn't stand up and pump died out of no where. Never gave any sign other that it started making a loud noise right be for it quit. The pump worked well up until that point, real quite compared to other pumps I've tried. I ended up going to a Holley blue pump to go behind the stock carter, no failures of either pump since then.

Just got off the phone with AirTex, asking about their E7153 direct replacement for the carter. As of now, you cant get one with the barbed fittings for relocated pumps, but sounded like a really nice option. Fellow I spoke with stated they had taken some pumps to 1k hours and they showed little to no signs of wear. They are working on getting a version out with the barbed fittings for us guys who have moved our pumps. Looks like a good low cost option. Hope mine will hold out for a few weeks to see if they can get these going.
Thanks for the info on the Essex Mike D.
