Now I know what DV's do...

SMOKE!!!

i put in some custom 3/4 cut dv's in my 215 manual truck, its basicly stock xcept a fuel plate, air filter... it smokes a lot, and never clears... it smokes more at full boost then before turbo spools(starwheel and afc back)

In order to find out the difference from 181 to these, i did some 5th gear ET testing:And found it disapointing that truck's slower now... It took 1 second more going from 55 mph to 90 mph (Before 8.7 now 9.x)
and 2 seconds more in 5th gear from 1000 rpm to 2000 (spool up test)
before 10.44 s now 12.x) and all this at 6600 feet elevation

one thing i didnt notice before, that tires break loose in 4th gear once turbo spools!

Will i see any benifit backing off the plate? say that i get only a little anount of rack travel like some say.... 17mm for a 215 pump?
Probably ill do that testing with an air regulator, to play with it from in the cab cut off the pressure goung to the afc partialy, and like that get half rack travel vs full or none (valet)

i wanna beat my brother... he has a 215 pump with fuel plate and auto, besides that trucks are set up the same

any ideas, suggestions?

I didnt wanna knock on going to bigger DV's... i had stock (retarded) timing)

i did some more testing, i drive the truck to school everyday, about 80 miles round trip...

i'll tell you its a fun ride, If i lug it, turbo actually spools faster not laying into the go pedal all the way, but once turbo hits it pulls and smokes like a freight train....

its actually fun to spin the rear tires in 3rd pressing the go pedal only halfways to the floor...
not to mention to hear the rear tires screaming in 4th till 55+ mph!
What feels so great about these, is the sensibel pedal, when passin people on the highway, i mean pull by them hard, with half pedal!

it still has the original Gov springs, it used to pull to 2600 before, now it pulls to 2850, and in neutral it revs about 300 rpms more!

i also gained close to 10 mph top speed! before i did 90 now 100
just waiting for my lazieness to go away and go install the gsk!

actually i wanna sell this set of DV's to a buddy, and cut myself another set, not as big! this' too much for the stock charger!

It's probably slower because your over fueling the engine and putting the flame out. I've got that problem when I turn my TST all the way up. To much fuel and not enough air.

yeah i know im putting out the fire at some point,,, but at some point i feel more power! more like at light throttle! so i dont know for sure...
ive disconnected the afc line for a little, and it doesnt smoke at all at full boost, so i think backing off the plate would help... but i didnt, cause i wanna install the in cab afc adjustment...

you need to tighten your AFC... it's slower because you're giving it too much fuel... the fact that it feels faster once the turbo lights means you're making more power. tighten up the AFC and it should accelerate better than before, and you may want to slide the plate back some to reduce WOT smoke/egts

ill do that! do you think it will spool up any better then with stock dv's?
it spooled extremely fast before, and i had it tight at low boost, before it would just haze, before turbo hits, now it really pours before turbo!

well, if you had it set up right, it may or may not spool faster, but it should spool as well... and you should make more power on the big end
