Nitrous usage calculation
Nitrous usage calculation
After unsuccessfully searching Google for the last few days, I'll ask here. I'm trying to find formulas for the following:
1. How much fuel can be supported with a specific amount of nitrous@800psi assuming that the engine is completely burning it's current air/fuel. - Just want to figure out how much extra fuel the n2o can burn with a (50,100,200...) shot.
2. I'm also trying to fill out the blanks in my sheet below:
Different fuel burn rates & temps:
Nitro should support the most fuel since it's optimum A/F is 1.71:1. Methanol's is ~6.0:1. Any help would be appreciated in determining the correct ratios of nitrous to fuel. Thanks!

Flash Point AutoIgnition BTU/lb Supported %n2o/fuel: Diesel 120°F 500°F ____ ______ Butyl alcohol 99°F 649°F ____ ______ Methanol 54°F 851°F 9,500 BTU/lb ______ Isopropanol 54°F 797°F ____ ______ Nitromethane 95°F 784°F 5,000 BTU/lb ______

Well, when the 12V is back together I'll let you know how my snow performance does injecting a methanol, nitro mix.
Sorry I can't help you Brandon. I'd say Don could tell you, but he might have to get out his scientific calculator, LOL.

Firstly, there is a bunch of hidden oxygen in Nitromethane. Just add heat to break it open
Since most nitrous bottle are in the 1000 PSI range here are some good numbers for you to input into your flow rate calcs:

The amount of HP added is not always tied to the amount of smoke you see leaving the tail pipe. We are never stoichiometric with fueling boxs and big injectors. No matter how clean the pipe is. With big nitrous and the proper airflow you could add 200 plus HP worth of Nitrous. Even with twin turbos and clean injectors!
Im not certain how long your engine will like it though.

LOLJust think when I try a hydrogen/methanol/nitromethanol mix.
I think I'll start with 50% water, and 16% of hydrogen peroxide, nitromethanol, and methanol. Then start lowering the water % while raising the % of the others.
What do you think Don?

"Stay away from Drugs"....is what I think!
A truck drunk on methanol, alcohol, or whatever the flavor of the month might be this week...is not a happy truck for long.
A truck high on laughing gas is happier longer than a drunk truck, but still feels bad after a long night of sucking on the blue bottle.

Thanks Don! That should help with the calcs some. I'm not that smart when it comes to getting that data.
Merrick, might I suggest adding the drugs after a solid month of the truck running first?
Just kiddin' man!

So far, it's about a year and a half old (to me), and I've put only 3,000 miles on it.
What's a good break in time before puttin' the baby on life support?
I think I'll name my truck, "Stupor".
