Newbee Questions about mods

I will soon buy my Dads 01 Dodge 2500 Cummins, 2wd, excab, swb, auto with 145k miles on it. Bone stock and well cared for. I have an 03 F350, 7.3 now with several mods and would like to know about modding the Dodge. If I could get some input as to where to start, like FREE mods and then move up from there. Thanks for your replys.

No free mods perse. Just your usual low-buck intake and exhaust. Tuners cost money and there is alot of options there.

About the only free mod is taking your turbo ring out which the only good out of that is hearing the turbo whistle more.

I have, use DP Tuner in my Ford and love flip on the go HP levels, but I don't see this type of chip for the Dodge. Is anyone here using DP Tuner's stuff? Also, has anyone done there own cold air intake system? I ask this on the stock forum , but what are my options to replace the POC stock fuel lift pumps. My dad had his replaced about 5 months ago and the dealer told him it would be $800 to install an intank pump to replace the old lift pump. He did not go that rout, but should he have done that?

Regarding the fuel pressure, get a fass hpfp or walbro, put in gauges and forget about it. The good pumps are expensive and no hp gain, but you don't have to work about taking out the injection pump anymore... (the ip is 1000 or so and you do the labour...)
just my .02...
