New Turbo???

I have a 2001 dodge with an auto. It has BD injectors in it, I was told +40 hp and an edge EZ chip on it. I have noticed that this truck smokes quite a bit, and the water temp will get up to about 210. I am wondering if I am running too rich and need a bigger turbo? If so any suggestioins??

your 210 temp is probably a result of the extra power superheating your tranny fluid.

smoke is subjective, a lot to you isn't necessarily too much for the combination of performance goodies. but its probably a result of warm weather with injectors and the EZ with the jumper setting set on an aggressive setting.

Before even theinking about a turbo put gauges in to see how the truck is performing (ie egt's, boost, fuel psi, and trans temp )

Do get guages and find out what is going on, My truck will smoke pretty good in this heat we've had the last couple weeks on streight #2, half bottle of power service in a full tank really cuts it down

Welcome to DTR!

You don't list your location...but if your dealing with summer in the south...a Cummins 180* thermostat will help a lot with the coolant temp. I use to get to 210 easily after 2-3 full throttle runs...or just hauling at gross wt. Now never goes over 190*. Cummins Part #3967195.

But the increase in coolant temp is possibly symptomatic of high EGT's...or could just need a good radiator cleaning. Get Gauges so you know!

If you get good stream of black smoke at speed and full throttle....you are probably short on air, running hot and need to look at a bigger turbo. But you should never add hp without gauges.

Did anyone mention that it's a very good idea to get some gauges??

Just keep this in mind, with the HTT turbos you can always upgarde to a bigger/smaller housing or compressor for only a couple hundred bucks. Makes it real easy to grow into your mods without having to buy a whole new turbo. I just put the HTBG on mine not too long ok and already switched to the 12cm housing. Pretty darn happy with the choice. When I go with bigger injectors(Mach 4's) I can upgarde to the HTB2 compressor for only $200 and be ready to rock.
