New clutch, wont go into gear now!

I just got done putting in a Valair 13" OFE in my 99, it wont even try to go into gear. The peddle doesn't feel right, like there is a vibration when pushing it down wether its running or not, I took the slave cylinder out a few times, its moving. How much harder is it to push in this clutch verses my stock clutch? I didn't have a problem at all with it going into gear with the stock clutch. I believe this is the org. slave cylinder, the truck has 110k on it. I dont mind upgrading the hyd. just worried there might be something wrong with the clutch. I will call valair in the morning, just thought I would see if you all had any ideas.

Did you maybe break the pivot ball?

did you remove the slave during the r&r of the clutch or did you leave it hooked up.

My slave worked fine before I put my Con OFE in, after we replaced the clutch and put the slave back in it didnt work. New slave/master from the dealer and it was fine.

get under truck while someone presses clutch in and make sure that it is moving the clutch fork, weak master/slave could move when slave is not connected but not move when under load. Also could have broken pivot ball causing no disengagement. just a couple suggestions. Good luck, hope it's something simple.

I'm having just a little of that going on too...I'm told you can attempt to bleed the slave cylinder but if that doesn't do the trick it may be time to upgrade

I found Dans cell number at Valair, he thinks it has air in it. I did leave the slave cylinder unbolted for awhile, Ive been working on the truck off and on for 2 days. I got under there and moved the cylinder in and out with the cap off and had someone watch it, we got some air out of it but the pedal still feels the same and it still wont go into gear. He did say the stock hyd. shouldn't have a problem with his clutch. I can get my fingers in there and move the fork, it still feels like its hooked up the the ball. I put the truck in gear with the clutch in and bumped the starter and the truck jumped, its not even trying to disengage the clutch.

Alright I loosen the slave cylinder enough that I could see the rod move when the clutch is pressed. I can see the rod move somewhere around a 1" and this is with the slave cylinder 1/2" loose so I can see in there. What do yall think? I thinkin about pullin the tranny tonight, to me its moving it enough to disengage it. I dunno something isn't right, the pedal doesn't feel right and I had good hydraulics before changing the clutch. I tried bleeding it again and didnt get any air at all.

My friend had a similar problem & it was also the slave cylinder was leaking internally. I hope it is simple. Good Luck!

does it go into gear with the truck off? did you have it in a gear when you removed the tranny? did you remember to put the shifter in the same orientation when re-installing it?

had that trouble with mine. i kept it in 5th to allow me to spin the output shaft to spline the input shaft to clutch, but when i re-installed the shifter i put it in the neutral position and it didnt move anywhere. i had to put it in the 5th gear position then bolt it down.

just a thought...

I did the same thing, take the shifter out and fiddle with the little nubs using a screwdriver for a while and see if you can get it into neutral. I don't think it is related to the clutch it would have to be the hydraulics or the shifter IMO.

i've seen guys have hard shifting problems by screwing up the pilot bearing when they installed the tranny.

It will go into gear if its not running, when we went back with the tranny it went pretty smooth, so I dont think I screwed up the pilot bearing. If it is the hydraulics thats 200 dollars from southbend, I don't have enough money to guess at it, so im gonna pull it and make sure everything looks ok before I replace the hydraulics. Im gonna be a tranny pullin pro when this is all over. Man I hate that stupid crossmember that supports the tranny!

JUst a thought did you put the clutch fork in right when you re-installed the tranny? IIRC the instructions that came with my South Bend saying something about putting it in backwards and not allowing it to work properly. Just a thought.
