If there is fuel leaking into the oil, unless it is a lot it can be hard to determine, unless you can smell it, or oil level on dipstick has gone UP and oil is thinner, oil analysis is the best way, it will tell you what % is in oil. If you can't find any evidence of fuel in oil, then just rule that out for now, but watch oil level.

Because problem started right after injector swap, chances are it is injector related, and not MAD ECM, although you could try swapping it with stock ecm(you won't like stock ecm now ). If you don't want to wait for next set of injectors, you can remove and inspect tubes, clean ends, change o-rings( if you didn't before), etc. as Don M suggested. Curious did you check for codes, and get any? Should have only one(from MAD ECM) program.

Thanks Torque, will look at dipstick for level changes and try to smell.

He has a scanner and no codes. We reset the APPS. I don't anyone we've spoken to (injector shop or dragging guru friend) thinks it is the ECM. We cleaned and lightly smoothed with 600 grit the feed tubes to no avail. The other guys think it is the injectors at this point....pop pressures.

We'll see. I think they will be sending out new injectors tomorrow.

I'll keep y'all posted, Matt

Ok, my buddy has still been battling this issue so here is an update.

He got new injectors from the supplier and is still having the problem shifting into gear. He changed out the Mad ECM back to his stock today to see if that would correct it, but again no change.

His next step is to check and clean (correct me if I'm wrong) the IAT sensor. He needs to go buy a big socket but doesn't know what size it is. Does anyone know what size the size is?......it is a very large sized socket.

Thanks, Matt

The large one is the MAP sensor. It is 1 and 1/4". The IAT is a 13/16. Look further aft and behind the corner.

Mine had a very slight hesitation at clutch release. I cleaned the MAP and IAT and it made no difference, so I put new ones in(at the same time ) and the problem went away. I don't know which was the problem, but it's not hesitating any more.

My son and I (banshee) have been trying to help Mike D. with this problem for the past week. FWIW, the truck is a 99' Dodge and most likely has the the ORIGINAL VP-44 Fuel Pump with over 80,000 miles on the truck and fuel pump! I had a Dodge/Cummins Technician check the entire service history of Mike's truck by VIN and the pump has never been replaced!! These early VP-44 pumps are known to have alot of problems internally, and especially in the PSG and "Advance" Circuits of the fuel pump, which would give the truck "symptoms" of what Mike is experiencing. To my knowledge, there are over twenty (20) "upgrades" that have been made to the VP-44 fuel pump since 1999.

As DTR Member "CTD 2001" pointed out, he had a similar problem and the install of a NEW VP-44 fuel pump solved his problem. I believe a "rebuild" or replacement of Mike's VP-44 will solve his problem and have advised him
accordingly. Also FWIW, just because there are no "codes" present, does not mean the pump is not worn out. Believe me,......with 80,000 miles on it it has alot of wear on it! The VP-44 Fuel Pump in my 2002 went out at 68,000 miles and before replacement my Dodge Technician said the pump had the dreaded #0216 code in the computers for 215 key starts according to the Dodge DRB Scanner!! I began to see that "stumble' at idle too although my truck never did stall out or anything.

As I have said in the past, "There are only two kinds of VP-44 Fuel Pumps,....
the ones that HAVE FAILED and the ones that are GOING TO FAIL!"

Good luck Mike and Matt! Don't say we didn't try to help you!

One last thing I forgot to post:

That's funny Matt, because Mike told me last night that when he did
the ECM change, the truck would NOT die anymore but said that it had
a rougher idle in both "Drive" and "Reverse".

Hey thanks John. I reminded Mike yesterday that someone in this post suggested that it may be the VP44. He must have talked to you already because he was already thinking about it and mentioned the upgrades on the newer ones.

John, I also appreciate the clutch advice you gave me the other night. I'll get one ordered in a month or so. I think I'm going to go with the Con FE, which is the stongest single disk SBC makes. Thanks again, Matt

PS. Didn't hear that description from Mike on the Mad/reg ecm swap.

Hmm. I think that 1 1/4" should be around 24. 13/16" should be around 19-21.

Metric Equivalents

1 1/4" = 31.75 mm
13/16" = 20.62 mm

Yep, brand new o-rings and washers on both sets of new injectors which both sets came from an injector shop. We even replaced o-rings on the feed tubes. First set was done by Mike D and me and we rechecked everything.....sanding rough spots on the feed tubes as Don M suggested, etc. Second set was done by Mike D and John P. It is my understanding that John P has done this quite a few times so we feel the injectors, nor the install is the issue at this point. Thanks for continuing to throw suggestions out though, maybe one of these ideas will work. We are just hoping John P is not correct about the VP at this point.....although we are narrowing any other possibilities quickly.

What about trying the 275's again, or a set of stock sticks? Did you ask the supplier about the pop-off pressure for those 100hp injectors? Could they send a set with lower pop-off pressures?
