I recently bought this truck with the mystery switch already installed. Found codes P0743 & P1765. I haven't tried resetting the codes, is it simply disconnecting the batteries? Should I expect these codes with the mystery switch?

Thanks Bob! I only tried it once since I bought the truck. Its my tow vehicle, not sure what what advantage it would be for towing. I tow a 5K TT and what dependability more than a hot rod. I have a hot rod (67 Chevelle) in the garage to abuse.

 

The mystery switch if used incorrectly can really damage a stock transmission, have you checked the condition of the fluid? any metal in the pan?

 

the mystery switch is used to force torque convertor lock up. That can be used for climbing a grade or for down hill braking.

Trace the switch wire and there "should" be a resistor there. If there is not, that could be the reason for the codes.

If you use a lockup switch right, it WILL NOT hurt your tranny. Just dont act stupid with it. It can be great for keeping the converter locked in 3rd or 4th while pulling grades, and with a stock truck you probably wont slip the converter, so just be sensible with it, and leave it there.

Thanks RDLeader! I look for the resistor. I want to keep the switch, sounds like it will be helpful when I pull my TT through the mountains the year.
