My mod for those missing the tire carrier/hoist!
Alright people Ive been carrying my spare chained up in the back of my box for 2 years now after snapping the internals of that spare tire carrier. I have noticed most people just giving up and keeping it in the box but I said heck no! so here we go....
I got myself a 3/4 inch threaded rod...it is 20 inches in length. I drilled a 3/4 inch hole right between the 4 holes where the carrier would go. Picked up a few nuts and washers for the rod as well.. I drilled a lil hole through one end of the rod for a saftey pin. I also got myself a steel plate in which I also drilled a 3/4 inch hole. You can imagine how things were done from this point on.
So I put the rod through the hole ...put one nut and wahser on it from the top and put the safety pin through. Then I supported the tire on two full size buckets from the sides and had the rod in full view below the level of the wheel...put the plate on, washer and nut and raised the wheel with an adjustable wrench...moved up easily...put on two more nuts two tighten things up and voila!!!....just gonna drill another hole for a safety pin below the last nut....
believe it or not but the rod does not show!!! (which was my worry intitially)...and moving the tire was much easier than expected (lifting it was my second worry)
so now you say gee how the heck are u gonna get that thing down...you're gonna get so dirty....YES I will...but then if your tire ever blows it's never a clean job....I'm gonna try and get pics up tommorow as I learn to upload them
ps the total cost was 0$ for me cause I had parts laying around...but the rod would have been 3$..washers and nuts maybe 5$...basically lunch money

my tire fits in with approx 1/2 inch of space bwteen either side of the frame and the tire...tire is easy to get down...I was able to hold it with my elbow while I undid the nut with my hand...getting it up required me to put the tire on a pari of buckets and the i inserted a small 2x4 under to lift it even more ..used an adjustable wrench to get it up to the top...nice, tight and snugg feeling ...very solid...doesnt budge a bit...safety pin top and bottom...u can't see the rod under truck from the street...its behind the receiver...nicely hidden

Well, I was third, it seems people like more clean and stock looking 4x4 or highly modified 2x4's. Or then they just appreciate more what they have under the hood.
What a shame really, I had those little tires on it when they picked me on the poll, my 37x12.5 are already bought and so are my 3rd gen 17" wheels too, I'm 100% sure that my little dually is getting more height and look soon .
Anyway thanks for your vote!
