My first 24 valve

Hey guys i just got an 01 3500 dually auto, I've had numerous 12 valves but really have no idea on where to start with performance with the 24 valve. What should i do first. I'm gonna put in a low fuel pressure light and exhaust but where after that is money well spent? Thanks

Trans mods to hold power then an Edge Juice. I like the Edge because of the built in gauges. You can also get a Quad Adrenaline or go with a Smarty and buy traditional gauges. Any one of those three will give you good bang for your buck.

Money well spent would be an actual fuel pressure gauge and not a "dummy light"

After you get some gauges to know where everything is sitting, you can add some electronic performance (edge, smarty, quadzilla) just to name a few.
You may have to upgrade your lift pump after that to supply the VP44 with enough fuel to keep it cool and lubed.
Injectors are always a hit too. Most prefer Mach 1 or DDP. I have the Bosch 300's on mine and they gave me about 40-50 HP boost and im very pleased with them for the price. I bleieve i payed around 300 USD for them about 2 years ago.
You might wanna put some money away for the tranny in case that goes to rest.

What trans mods should be done? Not really wantin a race truck but gonna pull a trailer 75% of the time.

a torque converter wouldn't hurt... that's if your not wanting to spend a whole lot on getting a complete built tranny.. that will reduce any slipping of your auto tranny.. best choice is to buy a built tranny so you can put the power to it to be able to help pull what you need to

Torque Converter and valve body at a minimum really.

Thumbs up Lift pump

If it still has the stock lift pump get rid of it ASAP. Install a Raptor of FASS pump to prolong the life of your injection pump. 400.00 now will save you 1200-1800 later. Edge EZ is a good box to gain some power without going crazy with mods.

1. Gauges
2. FASS or Airdog
3. Billet Converter and modified valve body in trans with a rebuild, or basic "towing" tranny from Goerend, DTT, or HTS.
4. Electronic goodies for more power.

I would suggest that order too, that way you can save for each item and not be in an emergency situation where you've got to drop 5k on a good tranny because yours is toast.

How heavy you gonna tow? You pull any hills? As for the tranny valve body and go with aftermarket converter. Change tranny fluid every three oil change. Install a fuel pressure guage/tranny temp gauge, pyro, boost guage.

If you tow heavy and run lots of hill, you may want a exhaust brake. If you do, let the tranny shop know that your gonna run an e brake.

I've run a Fass150 for 7 years now, prior to that I ran 5-6 stock lift pumps. You have to upgrade the fuel pick-up system. Its aweful stuff.

You have a 2wd or 4wd drive truck? I would check the front end/hub/front bearings, ball joints and u-joints. These truck want and need a steering box brace. A new steering box is nice upgrade. After that the truck is bullet proof for several years of hard work. A 4wd trucks also require a 3rd gen track bar upgrade

The reason I say go the Edge or Quad is because they have built in gauges including fuel pressure. Personally I think buying traditional gauges is an older way of doing things that ends up costing you more money in the end. You spend $300 on gauges, then you might get a used comp or ez for $250 so you are at $550, if you get a smarty and gauges you are at $900. I think a Juice or Adrenaline are in the $500-600 range and you are done. Before you beef the tranny up a bit you don't have to use the Juice or Adrenaline for added power, they can be used just for gauges alone. I forgot to mention before that a FASS, Airdog or Raptor is a must if you want to make your fuel system reliable. I also believe that one of these should be added before you ever consider adding power.
If you have a good working tranny you can get away with an upgraded torque converter and valve body as mentioned above. My 2 cents

Agreed, I spent about 700 on gauges and Edge EZ and ran for about a year before Posting and waithing for it to sell so I could get my J/A, which ran me 900 installed (before I knew how to work on my own truck) so basically I spent the money for the same toys, twice.

Fuel system (love my FASS)
Juice w/attitude or Quadzilla,
Then self control and run the chip on a lower setting while using your gauges they come with, and saving for a built trans, or torque convertor and valve body at least.
My 2 cents anyway.
