MTL Out.....OEM Back In

Well, my 2 month tranny temp battle with the MTL is over. Drained it Sat and put OEM back in.

Got a 50 degree temp drop instantly. Yeah, the notchy shifting is back but IMO heat kills.

2 weeks ago I put new 285 tires on and went on a 120 mile road trip. Temp stayed at 200-210 the entire trip, and that was UNLOADED!!!! Well 2 cases of beer in the back, that is quite a load.

On the return trip, the temp jumped up into the 230 range. Ummmm no. That was the last straw. I don't care how good this stuff is supposed to be.

On an interesting note, when I drained it Sat, it was the color of ice-tea. It went in bright red. What the heck. There was no funny smell tho, just odd color.

The Napa Syncromesh that was in there for 50,000 miles went in red and came out red and that seems to have run a little cooler than the new oem stuff.

Now, the diff's are filled with redline also. Anyone with a diff temp gauge and REDLINE in it notice any change in temps. Thanks.

Sorry to hear that. The Redline in the diffs should be working well-- unlike your MTL experience.

Around 2001, Joe tested the Redline, Torco RTF, Brand A, a few others, and the factory fill.

The factory fill and the Torco ran the coolest and got to the MAX temps much slower.

Brand A would skyrocket to MAX temp, and the Redline was somewhere in between.

Torco and Factory Fill showed the least parasitic HP drag as well.

Disclaimer: Brand A is a generic term and not necessarily an abbreviation for any particular brand name.
