Jess I have seen guys go 500hp with a pdr40 on a dynojet it gets hot though. I would be real careful with a 40 and n2o though. Hx40 shafts are not real strong. I did run a pdr40 a lot, at about 40 lbs of boost with no problems. Stock 40s probably would not take this though. Tim

oh yeah, I had the shaft and compressor wheel balanced by Majestic, so it's not 100% stock.

Jess:

On my 1996 Dodge CTD I ran 508 H.P. with the Piers HX-40/16. With my 2002
my best dyno run has been 486 H.P. with that same turbo, the TST PM 3 and
high flow (125 HP) injectors. Neither truck really had what I would consider
"high EGT's", as both of them hit about 1400-1450 degrees on the runs. Tim
is right about the boost though. The "stock" HX-40's can't take a steady diet
of boost into the high 40's, low 50's. On both my trucks I had the wastegates
set to about 38-40lbs. and they seem to make good power there and have
excellent durability. Another thing I like about the HX-40/16's is the low-end
response. The lag is very minimal on my automatic and takes off very, very
well. As you saw last year at our dyno day, we were able to see a 12.94
E.T. at the drag strip with cool air.

whats the diffrence between a 40 as a single and a 40 used in a twins package?? I am thinking about doing a 40 and then later on using it as the top turbo for twins. Would I have to make any modifications to the 40 in order to do this??

nope. it'll spool a little slower in the twin config... you could have an Hx35 turbine housing machined to take the HX40 turbine wheel. that's what I'm going to do when my twins go in.

clc900:

One thing I had done to my HX-40/16 when I went from the single set-up to
using it on top (at the manifold) in my Scheid Twin Turbo Set-up was to have
the HX-40/16 exhaust housing wastegate "flapper" hole enlarged some.
This helps the HX-40 "bleed off" more exhaust gases than it originally did
and it helps the drive pressure.
