Question more mpg needed/wanted

I am looking to increase my MPG on my 2000 Ram. Currently at 18.5 but would love to hit the mid 20's. Is there any unit (chip) out there that can do that? What has been your experiences? I would like to keep the expenses $500 or under. Would an intake mod be better for the money or maybe an exhaust mod? Both are still stock.

John, go to your CP and fill out the truck info.
It will help us help you if we know things like how your truck is equiped.
4X4 ? stock? 5 speed, 6 speed auto??

I tell people to coast to each stop, keep speed down, reduce weight, and accelerate easy.

My info has been filled out. Truck is a 2000, 4x4 extended cab with automatic trans. Stock tires, exhaust and intake. I just recently did a starter solenoid rebuild - contacts worn out. Mileage is at 99860. I am easy on the throttle and do coast when i can. I don't really have it loaded down either.

For the info to appear in the posts, it needs to be in the "signature" box, where you currently have just John.

That's great mileage. I might get 14 mpg if I keep it under 80, that's why it been parked for so so long now.

chances are youll never see mid 20's Alot depends on where you drive, hills, traffic, distance driven and whatnot. Gear ratio also plays a huge part in it. Generally speaking 4.10 gears will not get as good as 3.54's doing the same MPH. With that said, there are 2 easy things to do that will help you out.

Open up the exhaust, bigger and free-flowing

Open up the intake, make it easier to get air into the truck. With these two mods, you should see an increase, unless you start to enjoy the sound, and then your MPG will go down, and youll start spending more money on more mods
