Moog Ball Joints

Hi all,

I just took my 2001 4X4 2500 in for new ball joints. The mechanic ordered Moogs for it from CarQuest. The joints did not fit. They said there was another possible part number but they only had them up in Sacramento... I am in San Diego. He tried to get ball joints from NAPA only to find they didn't fit either. Then he tried the Dodge dealer who seemed to think there were 2 different sizes and they didn't have either in stock. The Moog joints are about $170 more than the no - name. The Mopar were about $80 more than Moog. Is there any way to know exactly what part number we are looking for?? Any thoughts on why they seem so scarce? Any place I can get a good deal on Moog Ball Joints?

Thanks.

First what pt# did they get? For a 2500 with a Dana 60 Uppers are K7394 and lowers are K7397. Moogs distribution center burned down and are haveing some shipping problems. I presonally would wait for the Moogs, I think they are better than OEM and of course lots better than the cheapos.

The differance is gas trucks have a lighter axle

thanks Partsman,

I am learning a lot from you. I will call the mechanic about the part number they ordered from the Sacramento store.

I don't know what a Dana 60 is, should I?

I can bring you NAPA part numbers tomorrow if you want. They were the only ones I could find that are greaseable. My lowers were shot from water and lack of lubrication.

If you climb under the front of your truck and look at the pumpkin you will see a 60F or a 44F cast into the housing. The Dana 60 (60F) is for the 8800 lb. GVW vehicles the Dana 44 is for the 7500 lb. GVW vehicles.

Hey Bigdogtruck, if you really want to learn a lot about your truck, go to www.dodgeram.org and browse around there. You'll sound like an expert after the first couple hours your face is glued to the 'puter.

I just replaced mine last weekend. Part #'s I have are K8388T and K8607T. Both upper and lower are greasable.

I ordered mine through rockauto.com. By far the best price I could find.

Go to the dealer with your VIN and ask them to run a report for build schedule on your truck. This report, about 3 to 4 pages long, will list everything that is on your truck from A to Z.

Cowhand, you have an older model(not the same)
BBWD, if you look on the bottom side of the hood you will have a sticker.
