IMO, you dont need a 4" exhaust with an EZ......the stock exhaust should be good to at least 370 HP. Instead I think I'd pull the muffler and strait pipe it.

Re:Moddin an 02 HO Stick

Considering the DDII's will net about 100hp on an ETH at least, combined with an EZ...........he'll need a clutch. Floor It slipped his stock clutch with just 275's and EZ.

Re:Moddin an 02 HO Stick

I pulled the muffler on mine and have an EZ - no injectors. I wish I had the $$$ for 4" pipe, all the way from the turbo back. Don't think it'll help with the EGTs but I've heard ones set up the same as mine but with a 4" and the sound is deeper and throatier - much better sound than my 3".

Sorry, I didnt factor in the injectors.....its always a good idea to upgrade exhaust and the clutch.

None. I've seen 275's (smallest upgrade of injectors) combined with an EZ slip the stock clutch as I posted above. When you do injectors on an ETH its a different animal and you actually gain more then the "Rated" hp in most cases.

You can do the injectors and the EZ, but just prepare him for a clutch down the road.....let him drive it until it starts slipping. Depending on how he drives it could be a week, could be 6 months, but with injectors and an EZ on an ETH eventually he'll need a new clutch.

That was my experience with DD2s except with the comp on 1x1 with no wire (for a whole 24 hours). Didn't last 1/2 a romp to the floor with the go pedal and I was shopping for a clutch. Seriously, about half throttle was all the factory clutch would hold.

I put the comp in and am happy with it. Stock clutch works fine, you will need gauges if you tap yhe wire.

Re:Moddin an 02 HO Stick

OK here is another way to look at it. What is a better way to go smaller box Ie Edge EZ and bigger injectors DD#2's or just 275's. He is going to be towing as well. He already know he is getting gauges to monitor everything IE Boost/Pyro/FP.

He has money to buy a clutch but I didn't want him to really need to. I told him however most buy one thing and want more later anyways. So he said well instead of buying something and then having to sell it later he would just go straight to the top so to speak. He has the extended warranty and its an 02 as well so he doesn't want to pierce the wire so I was thinking EZ and 275's to keep the warranty issues easier to deal with pull the box off and such when making trips to the dealer. I am aware they can scan em now for EZ's being there and stuff as well but he knows he wants to play. What do you guys think?

Re:Moddin an 02 HO Stick

I want to clarify an issue about the ETH that slipped the clutch with an EZ and 275 injectors. Was it an early 2001 or a late 2001? I wonder if it had the bigger clutch or the standard one. I have a 2002 ETH with an EZ and plan to get 275 injectors soon. Do I have to worry about a clutch if I add the injectors? I do not race and am very easy on the clutch.

Re:Moddin an 02 HO Stick

I'd go for the DD flavor of the edge EZ, and consider using a comp box in EZ mode. the DD flavors of the Edge box have a different timing curve designed and tested for use with the DD injectors. more agressive low boost fueling (smoke control) as well. the ETH engine responds really well to DD2 injectors. This was my plan before I converted to a 3rd gen:

phase 1:
EZ or comp in EZ mode
Scotty II in hush mode
EGT, boost, FP gauges

phase 2:
4" exaust
DD 2s
Piers adjustable boost elbow
SB OFE clutch

phase 3:
hook up the pump wire
drill the cowl for scotty II roar mode
get an HX 40.

Re:Moddin an 02 HO Stick

Dougs "three step approach" ;D is IT!

Early 2001 and just the DD2s on the ETH was more than the stock clutch would hold...no kidding! I added the comp on 1x1 to defuel in an effort to make the clutch last for the bank account to grow.

ETH LOVES bigger injectors!

I strongly suggest that if you don't want to bomb the clutch, go no bigger than 275s and get the Comp or EZ for timing and boost control, and don't hammer the throttle at low RPM!
