Mild mod: need EGT?

If I put a mild mod in, like a Smarty and maybe mild injector upgrade on my truck, do I need EGT and boost gauges or can I get by without? I intend to tow some but not very heavy, 7k lbs or so.
I don't really like the looks of pillar gauges or "frog eyes", and have no space in the dash for full set of gauges, but want some increase at the low end that people say Smarty is good at.
Thanks!

With an EZ and DD2 injectors, I can hit 1450 degF pre-turbo EGT (up from 1300 degF stock and 1100 degF with the EZ, boost elbow and stock injectors). Run blind at your own peril!!

I have a SMARTY on an otherwise pretty stock truck. It is a fairly safe programmer. With the wastegate blocked, it will make 32 lbs of boost on #9 and EGTs will get close to 1200 if it is being worked really hard. Gauges are always a good idea, but if a SMARTY is all your gunna have, you can probably get by without boost and EGT.

what happens if you tear an intercooler boot while hauling a big load and don't notice it untill you melted #6?

get gauges, even if you mount them down on the tranny tunnel

My vote is you get gauges. EGT as a minumum, boost is nice.

If you want somthing that is easier on the eyes geno's has a boost/egt combo guage and they will include a plastic plate (for free)to install it in the cubbie hole in the dash, also they include a drill bit, tap, and all the extras needed for the install. Its a great kit and a nice gauge, we installed one in my stepdads truck a few year ago. Check out the links below.

Gauges are nice to have so u can see how ur truck handles under different loads. There a very small investment for what they do.

Check my sig.

Guages were the first thing I did (ok, 2nd after the bumper, lift and tires), then I waited a couple years before diving into engine BOMBS.

Almost 3 years with guages on a stock truck.
