MBRP 4" is TOO LOUD!

Hey all! I am thinking that my current set up for exhaust is just a wee tad too loud. I don't want to kill the gains with respect to lower EGT's and faster spool up of the turbo. I just want to quiet the thing down so that people at the campground where I live will stop giving me the "glare of death".

Any suggestions for a 4" muffler that would still be effective and just quieter?

Thanks and Cheers!

Mike

Try a donaldson, they make a 4" in 4" out 41" and 51" length, I use the 51" and it is pretty quite but still has lots of flow.

Huh.. Well I never had much problem with mine, but I guess with the new age of quiet diesels. With the 24V the exhaust is not the only noise..

The Donaldson was going to be my suggestion as well. Good HD muffler that will make is quiet as stock.

I gotta say, anywhere except for right next to the tail pipe, I hear the engine over the exhaust. Surprised yours is different.

Sorry if this is stupid, but doublecheck the downpipe clearance coming out of the turbo. There isn't a ton of room, but there is a huge difference in sound if you let the pipe make any contact with the firewall. I had to keep loosening mine, and tweaking the fit to get it to not touch anything on the way down. I can't hear mine at all from inside the truck.

i really really like my FTE resonator but it still lets other people know theres a 12v under the hood. if i was trying to get a stock sound if get one of those hot water heater sized donaldson mufflers.

i was in the same boat, i had the MBRP 4" and wanted to quiet it down a bit. i swapped the MBRP muffler for a 48" donaldson. the 48" is 5" thru and thru so i had to use reducers. i am more than happy now with the sound. the engine is definitely the loudest now (unless, like tate said, i'm standing right next to the tailpipe). i think the donaldson setup with the 4" exhaust is actually quieter than stock . . .

I just installed the 30" FTE resonator on my Diamond Eye 5" system and it rocks! I added it in addition to the flow thru muffler that the system came with and I think it's perfect now. Quieted down the cab noise on the highway a noticable amount and probably killed at the very least, half of the noise out the pipe! Highly recommend it!

Hi all and thanks for your many replies. I have been away working and this is my first chance to hook back up to cyberspace. I will definitely check the down pipe clearance to the firewall. I appreciate the fact that the noise is the best part, at least for those of us who like it. Unfortunately, as I live at a campground year round, not all of the campers are very happy when I fire the beast up at 0530hrs to go to work!

I will order up a Donaldson 4" and install that puppy and see how she sounds.

Thanks again everyone! This is a great place to be!

Cheers!

Mike
