Question Manual #10 plate, what to expect?

Im thinking of getting a #10 for my truck. Taking in to consideration that i have a dual disk(need to make sure!), straightpipe,14cm, and a future BHAF, what should i expect as far as power increase, componet failure, or EGT's.
Now, i have doubts of my "marine" injectors( i personally think they are stock) that the previous owner said were installed. I only have smoke at low boost(star-wheel all the way forward) and when reving over 2600rpm(Max boost 28psi). Thats it. So, im am presuming that i DONT have injectors. Im gonna get a pic of a injector to see if anyone can tell ether way. Thanks in advance -Jake

What to expect........a HELLUVA LOT OF and plenty 'O

Least that's what my #10 did to me when I got it put in!

I've been 7 months without a good clutch now, and my #10 has been collecting dust in my toolbox at home, but I will be ordering a SBC 13" Con FE soon and I just ordered PDR 370's today.....soon I will be again!

If you install the #10 all forward & the clutch doesn't slip, then it's probably safe to say you have a dual disk. If there isn't any slip, then EGT will get scary. Then it's time for a PDR40.

The #10 plate is worth it's weight in gold for the smiles it'll bring. On my truck it hasn't broken anything but my clutch is wanting to sit out the next inning. EGT's are not as bad as I thought they were going to be, however I do not tow. My truck is strictly for horsing around.

Here is some food for thought, I installed a #10 in a 94' stock truck the other day and set it about .030 back from the stock position, on the test drive the boost was at 30 and EGT's were at 975, then went to stock position and EGT's were at 1100 ish and the stock clutch was trying to slip, about .050 to .060 forward from stock is were that plate makes it's best power without tricks.......now I ask you how versatile is that plate.

I can peg my egt but its pretty easy not to also.

I have a sb in my garage that has been waiting for me to put it in. I have a blocked waist gate so I get 35-37 psi......smoke is a at will sorta thing, I love it.....anyone tail gate me.....etc....its the sorta thing they just can t prove you did to em on purpose, you might just have a messed up truck ... I do have to lug it a little and hammer it to get traffic syopping you can t see through it smoke. It will slip the clutvh at will in 5 th or even 4 th if I try, hence the sb waiting for me to get some free time.

see sig....

Just remember with all the talk about the clutch, think about the transmission. The 4500 is not rated for the torque you will be puttin down. True the clutch will go but the guts of the tranny will too. I'm on my 4th rebuild and this stuff starts to add up. When you have the power , it will become necessary to put the foot down a litte harder and shift a little faster. And here comes the trouble. You start messing with the syncro's and it gets nasty. I've had the cluster gears go twice and the syncro's now. Input shaft once. That one was bad. And this is with just 405 HP.

Point is when you get the power just remember the total drive line thing. Can you stop with the #10? We''ll see.

Good point Tom,
I started with the #10 plate from PIERS, and was like wow!
Then the trans started to say So I had J&H Performance build me a DTT tranny and plop in some 370s. The thing ran way better with just the plate, but now its

I'm confused I don't want to argue with anyone. But with the mods I have listed in my sig, I can hit 42 psi fairly easy. Have only done it twice mind you(it can't be healthy for the tranny) but it'll do it nonetheless. Some of you doing all this work and only getting 35-37 psi can't be accurate, can it?

With the mild mods in my sig and 165,000 on the ticker, my trans is starting to complain.

27 pounds of boost sounds is what I got stock on a good cool day, now seeing around 32-34.

My #10 plate was installed back in the stock position since I wanted to keep EGT's down and it was like night and day.

I would reccommend the 3K GSK at the same time, while I did this from the side, it was nice having the top off for some extra light.

My 2 cents

you don't have to worrie if you have a small pump like my 94. put the plat in full forward and hammer down. with just a #10 my truck never got over 1200*.

My #10 plate and 3k GSK have been in for about 5 months now. I have the Con OFE 13" upgrade from Peter, and a 16cm housing on Piers HX35 turbo, and a Scotty II.. I drive this truck every day and also tow our 10k 5th wheel at least once a month. My truck has 213,000 on the od and as of this morning..nothing has been done to the NV4500. I am not saying that it wont happen.
I may get flamed for what I am about to say...but here goes..
It depends on the way you drive your truck! I dont remember the last time I speed shifted my truck...Now I do get on it once in a while just to show off a little..
Anyway....my transmission has been holding together great...

Rick

P.S. This combination has worked out great. But when I head up a 6% grade...I have the watch the EGT's close to keep them below 1250*
