Mag Hy Tec Question

I got my double deep pan in today and it's nice and perdy. But I've got a question. It gave me a filter drop bracket thingamajigar. When Chris at relentless installed my new vb, he also put the old 94 style filter on it. I think it uses 3 bolts instead of two (or maybe the other way around). My question is should I install the drop bracket or not? I'm figuring yes but the instructions have to many words for this simple boy to comprehend. Also, I bought an extra 8 qts of fluid for this thing. I'm gonna try and save as much fluid as I can out of the tranny because it's about 1 1/2 weeks old. How much fluid should I need? Thanks yall.

The '02 FSM says a service fill for either auto is 4 quarts. Should be the same for your '01, I'd think. So unless the Mag-Hytec pan more than doubles the capacity you should be fine. I dunno about the bracket thingamajig.

Actually, if you drain the torque converter also, it takes 12 quarts. I know the double deep adds somewhere around 4-5 quarts but I want to be sure before I tear into this thing.

I think "service fill" probably means just dropping the pan and changing the filter. FSM lists 19-20 pints for the 46RE and 29-33 pints for the 47RE as the overhaul fill.

Ya. I figured as much. Cheap way to do it. Not the right way, but the cheap way.

Yes install the spacer. It lowers the fluid pickup point near the bottom of the pan. The pan holds 9qt by its self. When you drop a pan some fluid comes out of the V/B so you will need between 9-11qt just for a pan drop.

i had one on my 99 and it held a full extra gallon over the regular pan. also, IIRC, the filter pickup spacer only used two bolts, the third you just left in place. this was on a 46RE, I dunno how different the 47 would be....
