LUK Cerrametallic upgrade clutch
LUK Cerrametallic upgrade clutch
Hello, has anyone tried the new LUK cerrametallic clutch set for the cummins ram? There are two different versions, a 13" upgrade with a new flywheel for the 5 sp guys and a pressure plate and disk kit for the 6 speeds that allready have the 13".
I am interested in hearing what HP/torque levels those who have it are harnessing, as well as smoothness, pedal feel, chatter etc. etc.
And with all due respect, please dont bother to tell me how great your South Bend clutch is or recommend one, because I am not the least bit interested.
Thanks in advance
Kevin

I love my southb...
I did a search for it over on TDR and came up with these pictures (3rd & 4th row):

This review (5 posts down) stating that it seems to be holding at 520/1245:

From the pictures I thought the diameter of the pads are narrower than the competition, but I know nothing about building a clutch. Even less about keeping one alive.
One more quote: "I went to their website. They now have an interesting Cerametallic Luk clutch for the 6 speed Rams. It costs about $550 from them. LuK also offers a flywheel made of the same ductile iron as Cummins uses, they told me at SEMA, that is like the HO flywheel, with the extra iron to surround the bolt holes for the 13" clutch pattern. They said the Cerametallic clutch should be good for about 1000 ft lb. I saw the clutch at SEMA, and plan to try one in my '04." - Joe Donnelly http://www.turbodieselregister.com/f...ad.php?t=86605

Great find Brandon!!!! I tried a search too on that site, but did not score.... You must know all the good browser search tricks....
Thank you very much.
Yes indeed this clutch is a steal for what it costs and its made by a real clutch manufacturer too... no snake oil here.... I had also heard it was a 1,000 Ft*lb clutch... I just like to hear it from some guys who actually make that much and use it..
How can you go wrong.... A $546 assembly that has an all new, not remanufactured clutch disk, pressure plate and throwout bearing that is made by a real clutch manufacturer, not a shyster, that holds 1,000 Ft Lbs......

Well I am the one they were talking about with the 520/1245. It seems to work fine at that level for me anyways. Now that I have twins in I may be pushing it a little to hard. I have had it chatter when I hit 5th with the water meth on. I backed out and then it caught and hasnt done it since. I would deffinatly recomend it for the cost.

Sweet! I was hoping that someone who'd read the same threads would post over here. I used "Luk Clutch site:turbodieselregister.com" since you have to be a member to search on the site itself. The same thing works for DTR archives and you can search for two letter phrases such as "CB Mount site:dieseltruckresource.com" that our search doesn't allow.

WHOA!!
Gettin' fancy with the computer mumbo jumbo, ain't ya.
Corse, when that's what you do to pay for your diesel addiction...
I never knew you could do that, I'll have to try it out.
Chris
On Edit: Just how do you do it, though??

Go to google or your favorite search engine, type in what you want to search for then type site:dieseltruckresource.com. I tried CB Mount site:dieseltruckresource.com and it came up with a whole page of stuff from here. Pretty neat actually.

2 buddies' 6spd trucks here in my area, one makes ~440hp the other ~465hp, and both smoked the Luk cerametallic.
It's a sore subject with both of them, so they aren't going to post on the boards.

I just got done speaking with the LUK engineer regarding the clutch. As long as the flywheel is properly surfaced, the clutch is designed tested and proven to hold 1,000 Ft*Lbs of torque.
I just ordered the kit. Pressure plate, clutch disk, throughout bearing and pilot bushing. $546 delivered.
I may be just guessing here, but perhaps your friends tried the LUK pro gold, not the new cerramettlic upgrade clutch kit. According to the same engineer, the pro gold only handles about 600 Ft*Lbs and since its organic, is totally intolerant to long, high heat slips. One long hot slip and its done.... Not so with the cerramettalic, although it is considerably harder on your flywheel...
It should be delivered to my place Tuesday and I will install it next week. So I will report on the performance of it with 800 Ft*Lbs.... If that holds, it will quickly become 1,000 Ft*lbs and I'll let you know how that works out too
PS: Mike, if its such a sore subject with your buddies, I would think for sure that they would want to post.... If they are mad and wouldn’t want others to buy it, why would they not post? The integrity of your statement is questionable, in my opinion.
