Not sure which setup you have but the one in my truck lights up when the fuel pressure gets below 4psi. Really inexpensive and can save you from running without the proper fuel pressure. Mine started flashing last week. Then came on solid. Checked for fuel pressure and had none out of a 3 month old lift pump. Glad i had the light.

A fuel pressure guage would have told you a month ago it was going out, a light tells you when to shut the engine off.

There is a reason they call them "idiot lights".

I think the light is a good feature, since you're not always looking at the gauge. In my case, the pressure runs between 12 and 13 all the time, but occasionally drops well below 4 psi. If you're not watching for it, you don't know it's doing it. A light would instantly alert you of the problem.

Geico266 is right, you should invest in a gauge so the pressure can be monitored.

Mechanical. Cheap, fool proof, easy to install, does the trick.

Do a search on the topic, I would say most people are running fuel straight to the gauge witha needle valve inline.
