loud whistle starts at 16 on boost gauge

Just installed my egt and boost gauges, both di pricol's. When boost reaches 16 it has an annoying loud whistle. Unhooked gauge and attatched rubber vacuum hose with a tee in end to intake manifold fitting and still have whistle. Any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance

From the way you described your situation it sounds like you have a leak. I would start by checking all your NEW connections you just made. Then if you cant find it then remove all the NEW fittings and try it. If it stops then add a good thread sealant like Lock Tight's stuff (cant remember what its called) and real install the new fittings. Teflon tape can leak if your not perfect on installation. If it still leaks after removing the fittings then look at the rubber connector clamps on the intercooler and turbo, they often come loose.<br>If you cant find it after all that then you might have to pressurize the system. But try that stuff first. Good luck.

Had the whistle myself at 20 psi a while back. Turned out to be the boot going into the intercooler on the passenger side. Pulled it off cleaned with brakecleen and reinstalled it tight and the whistle was gone. Look real close at all the boots mine was not easy to see with a casual glance. Tim

Loosened the boot from the intercooler to the intake manifold and readjusted the boot and positioned the clamps exactly in the center of the lips cast into the intake and pipe from the intercooler. Had to do this twice, first time was good until 20psi so I took 30 minutes getting things lined up as good as I could see and tightened them tighter than I thought was needed. No whistle now. The max boost has not changed, still max at 23.5 psi with egt's at 1150. Anybody know what the max boost is supposed to be on the 3rd generation trucks? Thanks a bunch to all who responded, It was hard to believe how touchy the boots are.

Did it go to 35 with the boost elbow or not. Mine never really went up with the ez and I have the dd3's and ez on level 1 and still 25 but it creeps at higher rpm. Still waiting on the dd turbo, getting tired of waiting though

BigBlue The hairspray is for the pipe and tube I had herd that it helps in making it stick together. So if you ever have a problem in blowing off a tube under higher boost pressure just raid the wife’s It’s bound to be around some ware. I am thinking about giving it a try on one. I have a small whistle at 12.lb but I run up to 42.5 with no proplem, so I think. OverFueled

I know this sounds wierd but try WD-40. I know every thinks lubricant when you hear the name but it really is a water displacer not a lubricant. Yes I said WD-40 is not a lubricant! I work next door to a bicycle shop and have become friends with the mechanics. When they change out handle bar grips they heavily spray inside the grips and the bars then slip them on. Give them a few minutes and you couldnt yank them off without putting a pick or screwdriver under it to break the seal. I also used hair spray as a kid but when I saw this I was amazed at how much better it worked. I dont use WD-40 for much anything but that anymore. If you doubt the non lubricating statement then spray it on your finger and see what happens. It quickly goes away and leaves your finger dryed out.

WD-40 stands for Water Displacement Formula 40. It's purpose is to dry metal parts by adhering to metal surfaces thus displacing the water and protecting ferrous metals. Developed for the military. It is a very light oil which has penetrating properties 8)

WD-40 is useful for all sorts of things. Have used it many times to get cars going again (not mine) that have quit due to wet ignition systems. Just spray all high tension wires, coil, distributer etc and fire it up. Talking of firing it up, don't spray an ignition system of any vehicle that is running. Any spark jumping sets the WD-40 on fire instantly. Guess how I know this! It gets spectacular in a hurry :
