Thumbs down lots of oil on the ground!

well i went out yesterday and found a big puddle of oil under the truck i started looking around to see if i could see where the main leak was and it was everywhere. so i called a buddy and took it for him to look at and he said he doesnt think it was the kdp but maybe a front main seal. i dont kno it is leaking from the front of the motor.

I'd get the KDP kit from eg Piers Diesel because the front engine oil seal is in there and you will have peace of mind after doing it. If I recall the pricing correctly the seal was about 40-50 US$ at cummins and the KDP kit was about 10 US$ more than the seal alone. (And the instructions in the kit alone if you don'T have the repair manual are well worth it)

Just my 2c

If after removing your fan bearing mount you find a crack in your gear case this is what you need to do http://cumminsdatabase.com/read.php?id=111

dont' take this too hard, but I'm assuming you just bought this truck yesterday? if not, why haven't you done the KDP yet?

hopefully the case isnt cracked and it's just a seal

The vacuum pump is right below the injection pump in front of the PS pump.

yeah, the spit definately happens... hopefully it's not the timing case...

but, like you said, whatever happens happens, and you'll have an even better truck when it's all fixed up

according to the tst site, it says that the kdp kit applies tothe 12v motors.
do the 24v motors have the same problem?

I've heard of KDP hitting some EARLY 24V engines, but never a 2001. It's kinda like a 53 block-- very rare to see in later 24V trucks.

KDP isn't the first thing I'd look at for a 24V puking oil-- I'd look at vac pump seals or turbo oil drain and such.
