lift and tire combo

i am rippin my hair out trying to figure out a combo to make my '01 look a little badder. i would like to do a little bit of lift and some larger tires. the combo on it now looks ridiculously small for the huge truck. i need some advice and pics would be the best on a few various combos. dont want to do anything ridiculous, i already have a cj7 on 37's.

2" leveling kit=33"
4" lift=35"
7" lift=37"/38"

of course width of tire can determine the height you can use--on my 4.5" lift I would rub my 36x14.50x16.5 TSL with full lock turn and then rub even more with turn and compression--- with the my 7" lift they clear no prob on the turn and compression--but they've never been off road either, so I'm not sure about clearances when you're maxing out the suspension ---chris

I like my 4.5" lift and 35" tires. Not only does it look good, it works well also. And it doesn't get you looking for a step ladder...unless you are like my Mom who refuses to get near it, much less in it!

BTW - My rims have 4.5" of backspacing. This works out great.

2" leveling kit and some new wheels will get you 35" tires. That's what I have (minus the rims) and the only rub I get is at almost full lock. New wheels should help that.

I have the 2" leveling kit from pro comp with the dual shock addition. I have 33x12.50x16's for tires. They dont rub at all. Right now I am running the spacers but I want to change to the D25 coils in the future. My wheels are welds and they hav 4.5" of back space. There are some pics in my gallery.

Im the same as you big blue. I put a piece of one inch square tubing inside the bottom control arms and shaved the outer lip off and that helped quite a bit to get rid of the rub. I still have some when I turn hard to the the right, and every once in a while when i turn left hard.

skyjacker d25's with 33 x 12.50's (305/75-16) look good

d25's with 35 x 12.50's (315/75-16) look better

even 285/75-16's (33x11) and a stock truck look good .............. a lot better than stock 245's anyways

RT,

Is 4.5" backspace the same as 4.5" positive offset? Also, does this spacing work good? How did you arrive at the spacing figure? Your's sounds like what I want to get.

Here's a good explaination of offset.

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...eelOffsets.jsp

Backspacing would be "negative offset".

Hi all,

I am new to the list and new to deisel trucks but I think my question fits right along this thread. I bought a 2500 Quad 4x4 with a lift already on it at auction. How do I know how much the truck is lifted? I did measure what I assume is the block they installed on the back, and it is 5 inches tall if you don't count the cup like thingy it sits on. If it helps I have 305.75R16 tires on it. I think that means I have 33 inch tires? I am wondering if my speedo is set properly.

More related info: I get 13mpg on the highway at about 65-70 and 11 mpg if I am pulling my 6000# trailer. I have a Kennel topper on the back and usually am carrying a total of 1000# when you count my equipment and topper. I do not have any other modifications that I know of, but am scheduled to have a chip installed next week. Any thoughts on that are also welcomed.

Thanks

The factory block is right around 5 inches.

What about the front springs?
Is there a spacer on top of them, is it 2 inches thick?
What color are the front springs?

If you have 33 inch tires, it is most likely just a leveling kit on front, nothing on the back.

Hi Phox,

thanks for asking these questions and helping me. There is a grey ring above the springs about 2 " thick. The springs are black. I put 4 photos in my gallery so you could see what I am talking about. Maybe that will help. Seems rude to post my poor truck's ugly undersides and not a pretty shiney pic of it all cleaned up.. but it is a work truck so there you have it.

well Phox, I lied. I did not put photos up in my gallery for you. I cannot figure out how to do it. I tried attaching one to the message but can't do that either. Obviously, I am new.
