I've heard that a 2 inch leveling kit will result in a loose front end as far as driving and cause more damage later on, is this true?

i did my front end once since i've owned the truck and i'm near 300,000 km's and a lot of it traveling to work on some hardcore bush roads. i did the shocks, d25 coils and the trailing arms.

Everything on mine is still holding up well after 15K with my leveling kit and 315 mud tires. If you are doing it yourself, be sure to have access to a spring compressor, or just borrow one from Auto Zone. My trackbar was worn out before I leveled mine, i'm just used to the wander I guess. My front end is so bad, an alignment shop wouldnt even do an alignment till I do some front end work. So I may be no authority on this, but my truck still handles well, it's just a little scary when I drive another vehicle with tighter steering.

I don't see how a leveling kit would result in a loose front end. It's going to get loose with time no matter what. Trackbars wear out stock suspension or lifted. There are alot of companies that can help with that when the time comes. Just do a search. I've had my leveling kit on since December 2002. No problems at all. I'm still running the stock trackbar. If it worries you get it aligned afterwards. I never had mine aligned. Tires wear fine and the truck tracks straight. It's a small change in geometery, not a very big deal.

Ok, thanks that's what I've been thinking, but have heard 2 sides to it. I guess I'll just go for it and if something happens it probably would've needed to be replaced somewhere down the road anyway. thanks

A leveling kit shift the front axle assembly slightly to the driver's side. The effect is not very noticable, however. An adjustable track bar will put it back in the correct position.

It is naturally going to be less safe to drive... but you adjust your driving habits..

IE brake earlier because you will have more noticable nose diving.. slow more into turns.. etc.

Loose front end can be attributed to the fact the vehicles aerodynamics and weight distribution is shot to heck when the front is lifted... extra air under the front end creates lift, leveling the front takes away a good amount of downforce that used to be present too.

I say just hold the steering wheel and use common sense!

Guys, what does the leveling kit do?..
Pardon my ignorance. Is my truck not level? I don't seem to notice anything. Or is this for heavy loads to prevent it from going nose up?
You have to forgive me. My truck is mostly stock (I think).

A leveling kit simply increases the height of the front suspension to make the truck sit level. This is usually 2 inchs. It's done with a spacer or lift springs. All the 2nd gen trucks i've ever seen stock are around 2 inches lower in the front than in the rear. If your truck sits level, it's possible that it already has a leveling kit. The spacers on top of the front springs are easy to spot. Lift springs are usually harder, but are rarer.

has anyone bolted a 2" block to their swaybar (correct me if im wrong) in order to keep the geometry the same? I've heard that it is best to do that or the tie rods could possibly bend from stress... what are your opinions?
