Kwikspool K.45- anyone have one?

Just curious if anyone has tried a new Kwikspool .45 turbo.
If so, how does it compare to the Pdr40 in respect to useable boost and egt reduction?
Will it be good for the 400-500hp crowd?

Re:Kwikspool K.45- anyone have one?

We've only sold one thus far, and it hasn't been installed as of yet, so there are no firm numbers. I posted the following on the 'other' site, and some here may find the information useful:

This first shot is a bearing comparison between the HX40, K.45, and the B1. The HX40 is on the left, K.45 in the middle, and B1 on the right.

And the shafts. As you can see, the HX40 and K.45 are nearly identical, however the B1 is significantly larger. Again the HX40 is on the left.

The K.45 and HX40 shafts look to be nearly identical, however the hubs are significantly different (HX40 on the left, K.45 on the right):

Note the larger hub area where the wheel is friction welded to the shaft and the extra groove in the K.45 hub. The extra groove slings oil and helps keep the heat from the turbine wheel from getting to the bearing. This reduces the issue of coking which also causes turbo failure.

Also look at the turbine blades and the support they have at the root area. (This is one of the secrets of the B-1's durability). In our opinion, the biggest reason HX40's fail is not from twisting of the shafts, but throwing blades. The moment a small piece of blade comes off then the wheel destroys the shaft instantly.

Last thing to note is the overall quality of machining/engineering. While the 40 should have been cleaned up better, you can still see some differences in manfacture.

Each turbo is available with a variety of turbine wheels and housings, we are able to custom tailor the turbo to individual and his truck. This flexbility and manufacturing quality, combined with the larger bearings (the outside of a bearing tends to absorb more vibration than the inside) are the primary reasons why I feel that K and B series of turbos are far and away the best ones for single turbo systems.

I believe the K-45 that Rod is talking about...is the one that is sitting at my house. The turbo is going on a 2001 this weekend. As soon as we get some solid number..I will post them.
The changes to the 2001 this weekend will be a TST PowerMax 3 with remote,EDM Mach 2 injectors, and the K-45.

It will be fun!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Rick

Re:Kwikspool K.45- anyone have one?

So does the k45 work in the 400-500hp range. Is it basically the "other" choice besides a hx40? 55?

This turbo works from the 350-450 or so range w/o wastegating it. External wastegate its good to 500...

Rick

Re:Kwikspool K.45- anyone have one?

Gentlemen -

I believe that turbo is destined for my truck tomorrow.. ;D I told R&R to keep putting things on the truck until it would outrun my ex's BMW... THIS, should do it..By time she catches up, I'll be in the next county..Thats what she gets for leaving in the first place. I didn't realize what a nice place the world could be until she left.. Rick & I will be at the Pismo dunes with it on Memorial day wknd shocking all the gassers on comp hill..should be fun.

Re:Kwikspool K.45- anyone have one?

Pismo Dunes are cool.....watch that EGT probe close Man. thats a ton of load to throw at the truck. About like pulling a heavy trailer. With your combo of parts that truck will be making a pile of HP. Enough for any wormy BMW or more.

Be carefull this gets addicting. I would caution you to stay away from the dyno events cuz thats were the disease really gets to working on you. Your latest combo should net you about 400HP easily. Problem is once a guy rolls up there with 450....many guys start scratching their heads and wondering just how much more they would like to do to just bump him off. Then of course him and the many others are thinking they same way. Just think all this started back in 97 when Joe D broke the 400 then 500 then 600 and now 700 HP barriers. He is charging toward the 800 mark and beyond for next year too. This is a terrible disease, terrible.

Don~

Re:Kwikspool K.45- anyone have one?

Don M -

You are absolutely correct. I have parked my vintage bikes after winning the first 3 events this yr, and have no desire to pick them up again..Its been nothing but this truck since. I am hoping this will do it. I have no desire, (yet) to attend a dyno event, unless its to watch, for that very reason. Most of my motivation comes from wanting to outrun gassers in the dunes, and the occasional sports car..The look on their faces is priceless..This has been the best thing for me in the last yr..You guys are all sick! But I'm glad to share the disease!
