Kwik Kurt vs. PDR

Can someone give me the low down dirty scoop on the B1/Kwik Spool vs Piers' HX 40 or the HX35/40 hybrid?

Preferably someone who's used more than one of them. I'm shooting for ~450HP. As soon as the tranny goes in I'll be slapping the 370's on....

Re:Kwik Kurt vs. PDR

Nothing against Piers in the least, he's a heckova Diesel/turbo guy...or Kirt either...but i'd give Pius at Bell Turbo in Stockton California a call before you buy anything else...1-209-467-8000 otherwise..i'd choose a B-1 anyday when dealing with over 400 RWHP

Re:Kwik Kurt vs. PDR

I have a PDR HX-40/16 that has done really well it spools up great and has been bullet proof. I have dyno'd 493RWHP with it in place. I now have a PDR HX-50/17 on and it is also a super turbo. The PDR HX-40 will serve you well for the 450 Hp area. I am more than a little pleased with how it has worked for me....

Pius of Bell Turbo has a new Switzer that is working out real well. Otherwise the Piers HX50 if you arn't towing is a good choice, Kurt has the B1 and the B1B with multiple choices of wheels and housings. Call each and tell them what you want to use the turbo for and their suggestions. Oh by the way Pius is the man for turbos.
Bruce

The head and cam are stock. I like the H2E it spools good for street driving and gives good high end boost also. The turbo is a Pius unit with the 14cm wastegated housing and a HX40 downpipe. The 19* is what Piers set the pump at when he set it up for me. I was running 17* with the HX35-40 hybrid that I built and it ran real good at that advance.
Bruce

Re:Kwik Kurt vs. PDR

Cowhand...I'm with Dee Rawson, on this one...As Dee mentioned, at your HP or goal HP the Piers HX-40 is the best...The main reasons are it spools very fast for it size, regardless of elevation, very towable, and has proven itself to hold up to higher then recommended boost levels. In addition, compared to the others, it is half or less then half the cost.. I have tried, the B1, the H2e and hybrids of those, although they are "bullet" proof, you need alot of fuel and air to get those to spool right. I'm currently running a Piers Hx-50 hybrid with 17cm housing like Dee. We both live in very high elevations, and both have the ability to push some serious fuel, and in my case some NOS.. Todate , this is the best turbo I have tried, and the best for my current set-up..I always carry a spare turbo when I go on long trips, drag races, truck pulls and dyno events and that turbo is Piers HX-40. I have beat the crap out of that urbo and I know if I should have a problem, that puppy will get me home.

Kurt and others do have good turbos, but you have to have IMHO a truely dialed in CTD to run them as they were designed to do..I would encourage you to contact Piers, Kurt, Pias etc., let them know of your intended HP levels, injector sizes, fueling boxes etc., then you can decide what's best for you, and what meets your budget. Like injectors, there are many turbos to choose from. I also have 4 different sets of injectors that I use depending on what uses I entend to put my truck through.

Steve

I've had awesome success with the Kwik Spool B1. I am over 450 HP.

Dee was there when we put it on. Its a very stout unit.

Like everything else...there are several options.

I hear that Kurts K-45 is becoming a good choice too.

Re:Kwik Kurt vs. PDR

Thanks for the replies. I'll holler at Piers again and probably Kurt. I think Pius is probably out of my price range- I heard he's like the mad scientist of turbos. Heard nothing but good about all of them, and this is worse than choosing a tranny builder. Too many choices....

I'm just looking for something durable that will support the HP I'm looking for. Don't tow much, other than the occasional 2-3 horse trailer, so I'm looking primarily for driveability and good spool up.

I promised the wife that I'd stop when I got to 450 HP, now we'll see if my mouth wrote a check my a** can't cash

Then I can save up for another horse and a 3 horse slant......

Re:Kwik Kurt vs. PDR

Here is my opinion..... The B-1 and the PDR-40 are both good chargers. Operationally from what I have experienced the PDR-40 is a better street turbo. It spools up a little sooner, both turbos will support around 500 HP. The B-1 is a better turbo for those who abuse them..... Examples would be running N20, barking, racing, sledpulling, or just driving the p*** out of them.

Talk to guys that have each of them, better yet try and drive trucks equipped with the turbos that are similiar to yours. In the end either one will be a good choice.

Doug
