Anyone have kill switches? I need one there are lots of dodges getting ripped off around here. I was thinking maybe rig something with the fuel cutoff selenoid?

My truck was broken into on one of my visits to Phoenix. I also had a customer who recently visited the Phoenix area and someone tried to break into his truck too. He commented on that he had heard from the policeman who came out to investigate that the Cummins was a hot item as of late. I've seen a couple of RV'er that have a solenoid mounted in the fuel line down on the frame rail. They have a hidden switch to activate it. It will allow the truck to start, but it will only run about 15-30 seconds and then die. This usually saves your truck as it allows the thief to get into the street and then your truck dies. Creates a panic situation for them so they run off and leave your truck behind.

 

If you look under the dash on your auto where the clutch pedal would be if it was manual you'll find a couple wires with a jumper across them. It's the clutch safety switch hook up, removing the jumper and wiring a switch at the location of your choosing will keep the starter from cranking. On a manual just put another switch in series with the safety switch.

That is a good idea.. Now to mount a stealth switch somewhere...Hmmm..

I could also trip my positive air shutoff too, but then I have to pop the hood to reset the valve.. LOL...

Switch idea for you guys... hide them in plain sight... remember those floor mounted highbeam switches? Most (all???) will do the trick just fine. Either that or reroute your 'start' wire from the ignition switch to the floor switch (there should be a little catch in there that can be filed off so it becomes mometarily closed) down there and you can re-live the old M151 Jeep days.... bet most of the <insert your favorite label here> ripping off trucks today would figger that one out.

 

If you are a non-smoker use the lighter for your switch. Just disconnect the wiring to the lighter and hook up the two terminals as if it was a switch. The current will flow though the lighter's coil when it's pushed in. Since there is no juice the lighter won't get hot and pop out so the "switch" will remain in the on position till you pull it out. If you park in a questionable area or for an extended period pull the lighter out and take it with you.

Thanks guys but a ricer told me the lighter trick.

It gets easier, but I don't want to stick my neck out since I don't know the wiring changes on all models. On most the clutch safety switch is a ground path, you need only run a single wire to the lighter and connect it where the positive wire was. The other end of the wire will take the place of the clutch safety switch wire that though ohm meter verification is connected to ground.

 

I done the lighter trick when i got the truck new in 98, works realy good , some time i forget to push it in and i just sit there thinking now what some times if i park in a bad area ( as i work in the oil field) i pull the relay for the fuel out ,

Can someone walk me through how to do the lighter trick please for a 2001. Which wire/wires under the dash do you hook to the lighter housing ?
