Keyless Entry Install?
Keyless Entry Install?
Anyone install their own Keyless Entry, Remote Start, Alarm setup? I got a PROSTART 3300 for Christmas and was wondering if anyone had any info about it. Thanks.
Never installed a Prostart but have installed a few other brands.
It is very time consuming, mainly finding the correct wires in the tightly wound bundles under the dash. Would take even longer to find the correct wires unless you have a factory service manual. This is even when the install instructions had the correct wire colors availible on the remote's website. The ones I've installed had over twenty different connections to make.
Expect to spend a minimum of eight hours for the install.

txwelder,
I've installed a couple of remote starters and a keyless entry on my vehicles. They were/are all Bulldog Securities units of which I have not had a bit of trouble with since the first remote start/keyless entry on my 96.
If you decide to do it yourself I'd recommend getting the FSM for your truck so you have accurate wiring diagrams. For my 3 installations I then listed the wire colors and functions so I would know exactly where all wires were connected. I did keyless only, on my 01, and the lock wiring colors were the same as the 96 but I ran thru 'em anyway just to be sure. All splices are soldered w/ heat shrink tubing. Also working on a nice day helps. It was below freezing the day I did my 96 but I had a bullet heater which helped a lot. My other install was the Bulldog remote starter only on my wife's old 92 Mustang which work great, also.
My main point is that preparation is the key. Don't just dig into the job because you might try to rush through and mess something up. Knowing the steps ahead of time will also make the job go faster. Just leave plenty of time and all should work out OK.

Well, as I am installing the remote start, keyless entry and the alarm I am going to get a few quotes for install. I dont want to burn something up or have to start over after install and have something not work. Thanks for the input.
