I use a K&N, put it in the first week I got the truck. Gives you a good whistle, couldn't tell you if it increased performance or dropped EGTs any because I did not have gauges that soon! Other than that, I like it! ;D<br><br>Tony

K&N has had some problems with the gasket seal thickness to fit in the box... Actually all brick filters have this problem. So if you do install one, be careful to ensure a good seal.<br><br>Try AFE, same as K&N with better quality and fit. (AFE is the original guys from K&N)...<br><br>J-eh

CH, I know your sig says stacks coming soon, but do you still have your muffler & resonator now? If so, even with them you could tell a difference in the turbo whistle? Can't wait to get mine installed tomorrow. What about the silencer ring, do you still have it? Tried to take mine out last weekend but the snap ring wouldn't just pop out like a lot of the posts have said. I was concerned about prying too hard on it. Didn't want to slip and damage the turbo. Anyway, have a large time at dyno days this weekend and say hey to everyone for me.

I have a K&N with no silencer ring and it sounds cool as #$%. I still have my complete exhaust and you can still hear the turbo spool up just fine. I had removed my muffler and resonator but I'm a wuss and just thought it was way too loud. You can, however, really hear that turbo with straight pipe...<br>I did not see any performance improvement with the K&N and also don't have any guages to tell you if my EGTs dropped. I have always run K&Ns on my vehicles and have never really noticed any gains except in my wifes 01 Mustang GT. She actually told me she felt a difference without me even asking her.

I know some like the K&N, but here's an alternate opinion:
I had a K&N RE-880, but didn't like the oily residue and saw high Si in oil analysis until I added the foam prefilter. I've switched to a MHAF (AH-1141) with an Outerwears pre-filter and I'm happy with that.
Unless you have fueling mods (boxes or bigger injectors) I don't think you will need or see any real performance gain from different air filters.
Finally, especially if you're still under warranty, you should at least consider this:

The BHAF and MHAF, although not "approved" by DC, are at least made by Fleetguard, so I think you could argue for your warranty being OK if the issue came up.

BHAF-AH 19037...Big Barrel filter<br>MHAF-AH 1141...Medium Barrel filter<br><br>Just a difference in size and flow, for those of you that run the Fleetguard barrel filters, pay close attention to the inside of those. There is no wire mesh on the inside of the element, just on the outside. They make a marine version for the wetter conditions that has the mesh inside, but it is pricey. Something to think about.

Just installed the BHAF this weekend. That was something that concerned me. Didn't stop me from installing it though. Guess the yearning to hear that turbo whistle was too much. ;D I thought I read on a post somewhere here that the NAPA 2790 had the mesh on the inside. Anyone know for sure?

If you use the K&N on the 94's and up what I've seen some people do is to use a bead of grease on the gasket edge to help seal out all air. I understand that this works quite well. I have run K&N on my 1st Gen for about 140,000 miles. The first time I cleaned it I followed directions and let it dry naturally - over night. Since mine is a daily driver I re-installed my old filter - this is when I decided to buy another K&N so I could just swap them out and clean the dirty one at my leisure. I could feel the difference. I change them out at every other oil change - 12,000 miles. I have supported my K&N useage with oil analysis at every oil change. The analysis test results are as good today as they were with the first analysis.
<br>You might want to check with Damlier-Chrysler about warranty issues - I seem to remember that they don't approve of K&N on panel filtered trucks.<br>Bob
