its time for timming

I'm going to get my truck timmed this weekend. I know most people say to go to 16* but I was wandering how much of a chance would I be takeing if I went to 17* or 18* ?

With 370s and a stock head gasket I'd say somewhere in the 18-19 degree range would be best.

So is nobody going to try to tell me different? I have had 16* forced into my head but if Don says 19* then I feel comfortable

That is what I was going to suggest with that baby pump.

Nineteen would be pushing it on a stock head gasket especially if your running high boost numbers, but I do know of some guys running over 20 on stock head gaskets, but trust me a blown head gasket is no fun.

what do you consider high boost? I can hit 40psi with my hx-35. I plan on getting my block o-ringed but not until next fall ($$) I'm buying a sbc DD street clutch next month so that is going to take a chunk out of the bank.

If you stay at 40 lbs of boost you might be ok at 19 degrees if you take it easy until you get the o-ring like not pushing more than 10-15 lbs of boost while the engine is still cold, what DD clutch are you going to get.

In other words Aaron, it wouldn't be wise for YOU to go with that much timing! I can hear that phonecall already!

I have mine set at a hair over 19 and 370's with no probs. Set my wastegate at 40psi. It can run more than that but I dont really want to.

welll just got back from what I thought was going to be a different running truck. I found out my truck was already timmed to 19* Checked it two times and came up with the same measurement of 7.0

I don't know what could cause my miss above 3k rpms. I checked the check valve with one that was known to be good and it runs the same. could it be a lift pump?

If your timing is at 19 then I'd rule that out, low timing and more fuel on little pumps usually pops a bit at high RPM, as far as fuel pressure put a guage on it and see if the overflow and lift pump are fine then you can go from there.
