Help, I have a 2001 HO/6speed 2500, In stock mode, nothing seems to slip. As soon as I switch to Race, in 5 and 6th, the rps rev up and as I let off the throttle, It seems to grip and go. Truck has 70k towing miles.

Could it be the clutch is slipping under added HP or are my back tires spinning as some friend suggested.

I would think spinning the tires in 5th and 6th gear would be what you probably wanted to hear, but I doubt its that. From my experience with slipping clutches, sounds exactly like you're clutch is slipping to me.

 

I have a 01`HO 2500 also. With only a VanAken box,blows thru the clutch in 5&6 with only 50,000miles on it.
Stock clutches are weak...............

 

Thanks for that, Guess I need to start to shop for a clutch. Wish the tires were spinning though . So what to buy, Clutch, through out bering etc? Machined,, and will I now tear out my rearend next? LOL

 

just get a full clutch kit (pilot bearing, clutch disk, pressure plate, release bearing). through southbend or Valair would be good choices.

 

Roger, Thanks for that!!!! I also tow a 12,000 lb boat, will it have to be heavy duty with the torque in tow mode, additional hydraulics etc?

Ordered clutch kit from
