my brother got this a 98 12valve

the transmission didnt have enough trans fluid, 2 more quarts filled it up.
the truck shuttered in OD when laying into it slowly, it also slipped...

so we put in another stock TC in wrom a working stock tranny we had lying around, checked the bands, they where all fine, put it together, it slips less now, the shutter is gone,

the only time it still slips is driving at around 50mph with TC locked up, and giving it pedal,

took out the VB, checked all valves, thay where all clean and looked new!
anyway we took the vb from the working tranny and put it into this one,
but the trans still slips!

only power mods is a plate! this 180 motor has less power then the other truck had, which the tranny came off (215) and the other one didnt slip!

whats wrong with the tranny? i've seen various other trucks ho dont tow and more power then this one and a stock tranny holds!

my guess is you are slipping the torque converter clutch... mine did it with a stock plate slid forward... the stock t/c are weak doesnt take much to slip one.


i put in a transgo and it helped tremendously with the slipping issue, now i really have to try to slip it. the added line pressure makes all the difference in the world.


throw a quality single or triple disc converter in it and a good valve body (either one from the big builders or a transgo even)

also how did you have an auto behind a 215hp motor? was it a swap? 215hp motors were manual only...

actually just put a 215 pump on the 98 automatic truck! before i put the BD tranny in

this is another truck, 180, it hasnt much power, just for daily driving!

do you suggest me to install a transgo shift kit? im considering it!

just some dont like it but others do!

does it slip less in the lower gears also? (before lock up)
