installing a Vulcan Drawstraw V

I'm getting ready install the Drawstraw V HF along with the Raptor pump. If anyone has experience with this or a link to pictures it would make my life easier hopefully. Please see picture with corresponding number:
1. this is where I connect (drill the hole) for the DSV. correct?
2. what is this? it was not connected to anything on the truck--just open like it is shown here.
3. the return fuel line: the plastic tube with the quick connect broke taking the tank out. Can I just retrofit in a piece of fuel hose and a hose clamp to this?
4. the old outlet: do I cap it off or ?

what about the cut electrical wires inside the cannister where the old pump was removed--just leave them in there?

the return fuel tube inside the cannister, just leave it as-is? this goes through some plastic regulator or something,
what about just cutting the plastic tube short of this device, it seems restrictive anyway. I Guess I'm concerned about
hot return fuel mixing with the intake side....any thoughts?

#1. Yes. Clip off the barb and drill with step drill.

#2 It's part of the passive venting system.

#3. Yes. Make sure it's a tight fit with the hose. However, it may still work fine. Try it first.

#4. Yes. Just use a simple hose cap. It's only used for the AirDog and full FASS systems.

You do not have to cut the wires, they can be disconnected. Yes, leave them in there. I zip tie them to the existing harness. They will have no power if you unplug the old lift pump harness at the ECM or remove the added relay.

Cut the flex tube just above the plastic piece. Let the return fuel drain into the module.

The only way hot fuel will ever have any effect is if the fuel level is extremely low. At that point the question is, hot fuel or no fuel? There are no heat issues as this is close to the factory arrangement.

the wiring into the module has the wires to the OE pump and the fuel gauge sending unit. I tried to disconnect the black and yellow wires but they would just not come out of the plastic connector. If I unplug the old LP harness at the ECM will I also loose the sender wires?

No, the sender wires are part of another harness. You can cut the power wires to the pump if you like.

Be sure to drill the holes where the instructions tell you to or you will run out of diesel at 1/2 tank.

This is not an issue with the DSV. That is only with the stock modules that require the DS1.

I recently installed the DS V in my truck and there were only two issues I encountered:
1) The factory lift pump was a Edit to get out of the bracket. (The directions said something about using the supplied "wires" to hold back the metal supports that hold the pump in place, however the "wires" were not in the kit.)
I managed to get it out using several thin screw drivers and a pair of pliers. I also removed the level sender and spring loaded upper section to make access easier.

2) The crappy spring clamps they give you for the flexible white/clear hose (that goes from the new aluminum fitting in the top to the aluminum fitting that replaces the pump) are junk. I had to remove the bed again and replace them with real hose clamps to keep from sucking air into the system.

Other then those two issues the setup was pretty slick and the quality was good.

The only other disappointment was the Raptor 100 kit came with all new 1/2" hoses/fittings, except the quick connect fitting at the fuel tank pick up is a 3/8" fitting. The DS V has both 3/8" and 1/2" fittings for this location, but it would have been nice to run full 1/2" all the way from the tank to the high pressure pump, (I already did the factory filter to high pressure pump line/fitting before this install).

On a positive side note the factory rubber plug for the vent that gets cut off fit the 3/8" factory fuel supply fitting and worked perfectly to plug it (since it isn't used anymore).
