Installed HX-40 Today!
Installed HX-40 Today!
Just a little FYI for those of you considering switching to a HX40 housing/wheel. It was pretty easy, just a bit tough getting the large snap ring back in. This has made the biggest difference in reducing EGT's thus far. I used to be able to bury the EGT (1600+ degrees) in a matter of seconds from a dead stop, now the gauge makes a slow but steady sweep towards the 1600 mark but never gets that high. I picked up about 4 lbs of boost but increased lag time a bit. Overall I am glad I did it and for under $200 it was well worth it. I can't wait to get back to the dragstrip to see what it'll do now.

John

200 bucks!
Where'd you find that deal? Used, I guess?
I wish I could run up on something like that.
I can hit 1500 in a few seconds with the PM3 and STOCK injectors.
So it was just a snap onto what?
I have an HX35. Is that anywhere near what you have?

Chris,

Brand new! I can get the number of the place that I was going to order it from (they were only $170) but Holset had it on a 3 week backorder. A guy out west used to sell them on ebay all the time but his boss/supplier put the brakes on it. Luckily for me he had one left on his shelf and let me have it for $185 including shipping. Keep in mind it is only a compressor housing and wheel so it is not too expensive. PM me if you want the number of the place and I'll give you the name/number of the guy to talk to. It's kinda hard to compare our trucks since you've got a 24 valve but yeah, the whole deal took less than a half an hour to put in. I had the HX35 on it before and had TERRIBLE egt problems with the stock 215hp injectors. I still have to go to a #10 plate and get it timed, hopefully that'll get it in check and then I can go with some injectors. BTW an air gun makes it a lot easier to get the old wheel off, wrap plenty of rags around it to protect the wheel and your hands.
