Injectors for a 24V in a motor home
Injectors for a 24V in a motor home
Hopefully someone has a good advice?
I have a friend, he has the same 24V Cummins in his 34' motor home. His engine is bone stock. He is a retired heavy equipment professional, so he is not afraid of working on his. But he does not have good information on modifications to these engines, so I promised him I'd ask. He does not mind extra power, and would love to have better gas mileage (I think the mileage is hurt by not having enough power for the weight, so better injectors might help that as well as get better power).
I am thinking, all the radical injectors people are using here are for our trucks, which are quite light (well, compared to a 22,000# motor home), so I would imagine they would not be too good for a motor home. Of course he has 275s in it already, and the software in the ECM has got to be different from ours. I don;t know if his unit has built in EGT monitoring, I would doubt that.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I would go right for a juice/attitude. Wont be strictly a plug in, but close. Give him all of his gauges and a boost in performance, with TONS of built in safeties for over heating egt's. Best bang for the buck by far.
The simple way would be a pyro, a boost fooler, a boost elbow and some Mach 1.6 -Mach3 injectors. (And maybe a bit more turbo)
The problem I see is that with Edge Juice etc the programming relies on the Dodge calibration of the ECM and this can wreak havoc with a different ECM. The boost fooler should work since it is just modifying the signal to not exceed the voltage for 21 psi. With the boost elbow and more fuel from the injectors he should be set.
Just my 2c

What kind of transmission does the RV have? That'd be my number one concern. It can't be cheap to rebuild and it definitely isn't gonna be cheap to tow if your buddy takes out his transmission driving down the road some day.

The 8.3s I worked on were either P-Pumped or had a completely different electronic pump- none had a VP44. Their electronics were also completely different (for example having a direct EGT feed into the ECM) .
I also had VP44 ISB-s with an ECM that differed from the Dodge ECM.
Not to say that it isn't possible, but my approach would be to simply add a little bit of fuel and air without entering the electronics too much.
The transmission would potentially need to be upgraded- especially if it's an auto the shift points will stray since you don't need that much go pedal as before and the tranny might try to lug the engine.

Right, but I was trying to say your ecm will respond fine to dodge vp44 performance products, but offer you more in the way of monitoring whats going on., keeping it from getting out of control. Your moving alot more weight than a dodge ram. You will want to be able to control the fueling depending on the situation. Just 'injectors' wont do that for you. You will pay less and gain more by going to one of the modern engine management type systems. Edge for sure, and I think quadzilla and maybe tst have offerings.
Ok, thanks! I looked on the Edge web site and they don't seem to have anything RV-specific. Maybe we can try a Dodge one and if he does not like it, I will buy it from him for my truck. I may call around to Quad and Edge, someone must have something!
