It shouldn't be thicker.
Washer thickness determines how far the injector spray pattern extends.

They could, it all depends on the brand of injector. Most times the company selling the injector supplies the correct thickness washer.
Injectors and washer thickness are a matched set.
As long as your new washer is the same thickness as the other five you'll have no problem. I wouldn't go replacing all six in order to get them all the same though. Get the right thickness. Washer thickness is very important and is matched to the spray pattern and angle of the injector. Too deep and the pattern will hit the sides of the cylinder, too shallow and the pattern may be concentrated to a small area on top of the piston.

Ok guys. This is starting to get very aggrovating. I put the new washer i bought in with no problems. Started truck up. Leak still there. I have been driving it leaking, and last night when i got home it was loping really bad, and noticed when i got home from church today that it had diesel dripping like crazy under the truck. Well. Pulled the injector, and turns out the body of the injector(the bottom half)has a crack longways down the injector. Well. Pulled one of those off my 215's,a nd put on the 160, and it isnt leaking like crazy anymore, but it still has the leak it was having and it sure is aggrovating. I put the original washer back in this time. Do i need to buy another new washer, and put in, and see what i have or what? How else could it be leaking if its not through the washer??This is driving me nuts

Replace the copper horseshoe on the return line. If you have ever had that thing off, it is a bugger to stop leaking, and even at that, it seems to take an excessive amount of torque to get it tight enough.

Also, the washer on the injector has to be the same thickness, or you will have a strange runnin Cummins. That controls the depth of the injector into the piston bowl , as infidel said, for the spray pattern.

The injector sealing washers are not reusable.

Don't forget you need a inch pound torque wrench. 89 IP's for the small injector retaining screw on top. Its not much. I was surprised how lightly mine were in with no leaks.

The return line isnt leaking. I can see it bubbling out of all around in between the injector, and the retaining nut. The first time i tried that new washer it didnt work? What could be the problem? Could i put a little gasket sealer on the bottom of the washer, or what should i do? I dont really see why you couldnt reuse a washer, but i dont know what else to do now, and its leaking plenty. I could try one of my 215 injectors in there, but would that hurt anything to have one 215 in there? One thing i also forgot. The rubber sealing washer thing ont he top is shot,b ut that shouldnt matter should it? All it does is keep dirty out right? It has to still be coming through the little washer somehow. How can i clean out the injector hole without getting anything into the cylinder? Thanks guys. This is driving me nuts.

It will get in the cylinder but just blow it out with air.

Also, have you checked the injector where it goes together? And the nut torques at 50 lbs.

Eric,

Did you ever resolve this problem??
Did you get the 215's installed?
Is so, how did it turn out?

Sorry guys. Yeah. I got it figured out. Just had a bad injector. Put one of my buddies old injectors in(he went to 370's), and all is well. Also; im not positive if the other injectors i have are 215's or 370's or what they are, but I am going to start a thread soon to see if anyone can find out for me, and if they are 215's i will probably put them in in a few months, but probably not real soon. I still want to switch back to my 12cm housing and stuff first(i guess). When i get the 215's in(if thats what they are) i will start a new thread . I dont really want to go to 370's, so i hope they are 215's. AnywaY. I will try and keep you posted.

Eric
