Injector Choice?

I need your advice.

I am looking at buying a set of 135 HP injectors for my truck. Trouble is I have no idea if it is a good thing. See my signature for what I have already. I know if I add injectors I'll need EGT & boost guage.

Question is will they work with a stock turbo? Should I go lower HP with the injectors with a stock turbo?

Go slow, I'm real new to injectors, required boost, turbos, & such.

If the injectors are edm's, I think you will be ok with no load. Towing over 5k, you will probably be running a little hot. If the injectors are extrude honed, you will probably be over 1200* empty. This is assuming that the Smarty is on #9, and you have a heavy right foot. I am running 100hp edm nozzles and I dont have any egt trouble with my comp on 3x5 running empty. I say go for it, and if you do have egt issues, check out a hybrid turbo. High Tech Turbo has many to choose from, and I am sure there are many other good company's that offer them.

So if I had 150 HP injectors and need to tow heavy I can back the Smarty down to say 2 and I'd be okay? In theory?

Obviously, I would have the guages by then.

I have mach 4 injectors and I pull about 5,000 lb. occasionally, And I keep my Comp between 1x5 and 3x5 and I can keep my egt's under control pretty easily. I'm not hot rodding around when I am pulling my trailer.

I am looking at a larger turbo down the road though, SB clutch should be here in a week so I can tell you what EGT' are at 5x5.

with a stock HX35 I would not go larger then mach 1.6s (90hp).I speak from experiance , I tow real heavy and that is the limit for an HX35 towing with an HO engine an SO engine would run cooler because of lower fuel pressure.and compression. and I keep EGTs at 1150-1200 at 32 psi boost at 38PSI MAX. with 1.6s it starts to climb . the smarty will not change your fueling with big sticks unless you use stock setting then it will defuel to keep set boost limit. smarty changes how fast fuel comes on on the low end and adds timing, boost fooling .If you get bigger sticks a bigger turbo will be needed for heavy towing. if your just blasting stop lights maybe you could get away with larger sticks .I just know how my truck runs . my .02

Great responses on the injectors above. All I can add is I <3 my F-1's

As far as the smarty goes, the difference between levels is mainly in responsiveness more than power output, so you shouldn't have to turn it down, although you might find smoke easier to control on a lower sw once you get your injectors in. You don't have a sw in your sig so I assume you're running 9

Restrict you wastegate to give you 35 PSI and you should be OK for the most part. With the stock wastegate and current mods ('99) I would have to backoff under load or hill. Now (W/G blocked) I can't get 700 degress post-turbo (which at the high split of 500 degrees would be 1200). That is on a hill with no trailer for an extended time.

If you have future plans I would say go big and protect it with your foot until you up the air. I would imagine with boost fooling and no fuel you would have almost no issues.

Are you talking about the turnbuckle thing? Close off the waste gate? or restrict it to 35 PSI.

I just put a plug in the line. On our trucks there is a small rubber line from the face of the aluminium housing (pressure side of the cold air) that goes to your wastegat actuator. You can machine a plug (like I did) and clamp over it; or buy a calibrated orfice from someone (I think edge and others sell them). There are also manual boost controllers that are a T-type neddle valve that you can adjust infanitly to set whatever gives you happiness in your heart.

Mine seems to open the wastgate simply from exhaust pressure about 35 PSI and settles to 32 PSI. It is a little hard to say because I havn't loaded it to where I can hold a speed at high power. I run out of rpm.

I'd back down the Smarty to 0-- the half-power feature, and see if it's enough HP.

If not, then go with one of the even-number programs with less/no timing. Try 2, 4, or 6

PYRO GOES IN BEFORE INJECTORS DO!!
