Increaseing 47RE line pressure

Wierd, I rean a search for the info I'm looking for, but used too broad of a search parameter. I revised the search and tried again only to get a message stating that the search function had been disabled by the admins.

Anyway, it's time to service the tranny in my truck... fluid change, filter change and adjust the bands. Since I'm running and EZ, I thought it might be a good idea to tweak the line pressure a tad while I'm in there. Can someone give me some info on increasing the line pressure in my 47RE? How much should I increase it and where is the adjustment? Thanks.

i wanna do this too but only after im sure that ive got no internal leaks...so i wouldnt just "turn" the screws and hope that each turn =3psi..im gonna measure the baseline pressures first and then we'll see....i was trying to fing out in another post how much psi the seals can take on a stock tranny...no one seems to know...so my pressure adjustment is pending

ps u have to adjust both screws..if u give that one 3 turns then give the other one half that so 1 and a half

There is no magic number as to how much pressure a stock tranny can take. They are all different. I wouldn't try more than 6 psi over stock on a stock tranny.

What are you getting at here???

The 48 runs higher pressures stock than a 47. I don't think it is an issue.

What exactly am I looking at in those pictures? I mean where are those screws located?... on the driver side, pass side, inside the pan, etc.??

On the drivers side of the valve body. You will need to drop the pan to access them.

Thanks... I'm waiting to drop the pan right now... I need to change the fluid and filter and adjust the bands, but I need to pick up an inch-pound torque wrench first.

I am very interested in doing this also to possibly help with t/c lockup. Does the valve body need to come off or is it easily accesible by only removing the pan.

The valve body does not need to be removed but you will need to modify an allen wrech to make the adjustments.

Heed the warnings though...Increasing line pressure can also move the shift points higher in the RPM band. My 47RE already shifts too late, so I never messed with these pressures. I am waiting for the tranny to wear out before I go with a Goerend Brothers unit. They are pretty much a local shop for me.

I wouldnt increase line pressure on a stock tranny there is an alternative though a pressure loc it is a pneumatic ram which takes control of the amount of line pressure you have at certain throttle positions. 47re transmission uses a linkage from the accelerator pedal to control line pressure at 20% throttle you have 20% line pressure this ram increases line pressure to about 60% at 20% throttle to help with slippage and shuddering 47re is known for. At 20% throttle you could have peak Torque so 20% line pressure just doesnt cut it results in shuddering and slippage.
